speedy jon Posted May 13, 2010 Posted May 13, 2010 i did a driving thing at thruxton where i drove a porsche cayman for 3laps then 4 in a fezza 430 scud then 5 in a single seater. the instructor in the ferrari wouldnt me rev it high only to 6k but we did get upto around 130mph. the single seater was s**t. it was slower than the cayman i went round in,was on the limiter most of the lap. i know its only an experiance day and they not going to let you go nuts in the cars and the day goes too quickly. it was over in around 1 1/2hrs. Captain Colonial Posted May 14, 2010 Author Posted May 14, 2010 Thanks as always for the advice and experience gents. I'm under no illusions that I'll be allowed to go nuts in whatever car I choose, but will still enjoy it to bits without doubt. Seems pretty overwhelmingly Lambo for you lot, and that rather matches my first thoughts as well. Might change my mind on the day, depending on circumstances, and naturally will sit in all of them to fairly make my choice. Mark, you were reading my mind, taking the Westy there to see if I can blag a few laps in that as well. Thanks again, will report back when I've done it. Quote
Mark Stanton Posted May 14, 2010 Posted May 14, 2010 also in your westfield it may re-assure the "instructors" that you are familiar with high performance cars or it may not Quote
Fat Albert Posted May 14, 2010 Posted May 14, 2010 I drove all the current Astons at Millbrook last year, abiding memories are the ceramic brakes on the V12 Vantage, simply phenomenal stopping power, I could not persuade myself to brake late enough at the end of the 170mph straight! and it would stop in less than two car lengths from 50mph (unlike the 13 stated in the highway code) and the simply incredible Jekyll and Hyde nature of the DBS which was as hard as you could want on the handling circuit while being as cosseting as required elsewhere I might have the money to buy one if the Tories repeal IR35 Quote
dstorey Posted May 14, 2010 Posted May 14, 2010 I'd love a 575. Still THE Ferrari I'd buy if I had the cash... Quote
Asterix Posted May 14, 2010 Posted May 14, 2010 good to see I'm not alone in choosing the lambo Quote
DITCH Posted May 14, 2010 Posted May 14, 2010 Got to agree, has to be the Gallardo, I would'nt mind getting my hands on the keys of this, and take it for a blat up an autobahn.... Ditch.. Quote
carpetstu Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 I have driven the Lambo and was great fun. Also Driven a 996 and that was better fun The wife drove an Aston and loved it. Also a Lambo the first time. But I think given the choice it would be the 997 Quote
SteveH Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 I'm one of those nasty instructors that's always getting accused on forums of holding drivers back and not letting them go fast enough to kill us both . The poll is correct, drive the Lambo. Quote
Mark Stanton Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 bah ......... nasty instructor man you gotta let folks drive em at least a little faster than their Mondeo Quote
SteveH Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 That depends on how they drive their Mondeo We aren't actually there to hold you back but I will generally know within half a lap how far I'll let you push in £100k of unfamiliar car and with me in the passenger seat! If you tune in to how we want things done (particularly if you show you are capable of decent braking - rarer than you might expect!) then we will be there pushing you to go faster, not holding you back as the drive progresses .
