Guest Posted November 3, 2002 Posted November 3, 2002 Evening all, Here's a list of my current problems: 1) I'm currently preparing my Zetec and was wondering where in the main loom I attach the ECU wiring loom. I've got the Webcon system from Westfield and it requires a +12V (ignition switched) connection & a ground connection. I could not see anywhere to attach this apart from the auxillary connection, which I'm sure is not the correct place. 2) My instrument set included 3 sensors: the speed transducer, oil pressure sensor and another small, gold sensor that I cannot identify. It is a gold cylinder with a thread approx. in the middle. The other half is very thin with a 'mushroom'-shape cap on the end. I'm guessing it might be the temp sensor but I have no idea where it goes or how anything can connect to it.... 3) The mounting brackets for the radiator seem to be much too narrow and do not line up with the side flanges on the radiator - if I line one side up, the other bracket is inline with the cooling fins in the body of the radiator! Am I being stupid and missing something obvious here? (I'm using a non-ducted nose, steel radiator) 4) Anyone know if the cooling system for Zetecs has been radically overhauled by the factory? I only have 3 alloy pipes that look nothing like any in the manual and a load of hoses that don't match either.... Or perhaps they've just forgotten bits again.... 5) I've been trying to bleed my brakes but the rear calipers keep leaking where the aeroquip screws into the caliper. I've got a copper sealing ring but the surface of the caliper seems too rough for it to seal properly. Since they are proper recon. calipers I assumed I shouldn't need to file it smooth. Suggestions.... Ok, that'll do for now Thanks, - Dan. Quote
Westfieldman Posted November 3, 2002 Posted November 3, 2002 You have two fuse boxes one is battry the other is live with the ignition use one of these there is probably a spare heater? The gold funnel shapped sensor goes in the left hand side of the thermostate housing as you sit in the car. The Cooling is bottom of the rad into the water pump also tee's of to the expansion tank Through the engine to the thermostate and out to the top of the rad. also a bleed off from the thermostate to the expansion tank . Look for some pictursesHere Paul. Quote
Kevin Wood Posted November 3, 2002 Posted November 3, 2002 Regarding powering the ECU there are two wires which exit the wiring loom by the crossmember just behind the engine (ie in the engine bay). They are white and white and black. One is the power for the ECU (live when ignition on) and the other is the pulse feed for the tachometer. Have a look in the build manual and it'll tell you which is which. These are the only two connections normally required between the main loom and the ECU loom. Regarding a ground connection for the ECU I would connect it to the main chassis ground where the battery negative earths to. I would take out the copper washers from the brake caliper connections and see how that works. Some are designed to seal against the face of the caliper using the washer. Others have a taper seat recessed into the hole which the tip of the hose end seals against. On the latter type you don't need the washer. On the former I would have expected the surfaces around the hole to have been machined perfectly smooth to effect a decent seal which doesn't sound like the case. Kevin Quote
PeteBishop Posted November 3, 2002 Posted November 3, 2002 Dan 1/ connect the live side of the ECU to the battery via a relay switched by the ignition and take the earth lead direct to a very good earth point on the chassis. 2/ Yes thats the temp sender if you are using the the black plastic thermostat housing you will have to get an adaptor made up because the ford sensor is much bigger and an earth wire will need to be attached to it 3/ Not sure on this one but on my 1st car i had to use that special tool to adjust the brackets (hammer) 4/ Sorry no help on this one made my own pipework with electric pump. 5/ If you got them from Westfield speak to them and ask for another pair Hope that helps Peter Quote
