Expansion tank cap

Why is the water expansion tank cap on my VX a real pain in the a55 to get off    Changed it a few weeks ago and it's gone the same as the last. Also the black rubber band inside the cap always expands and comes away from the cap  

any suggestions ??

I always find a thin smear of Vaseline helps.

And it should work ok for your expansion tank cap as well
