Guest Posted May 6, 2010 Posted May 6, 2010 I have recently bought a Westfield and already i have a problem. The wheel bearing is shot and i require a new hub assembly and stub axle for a Ford Cortina.... Anyone help? martyn_turner@tiscali.co.uk Quote
DavidR Posted May 6, 2010 Posted May 6, 2010 A couple of questions to try to pin down the problem. What has caused so much damage to need replacement of the hub and stub axle? Is the wheel bearing really shot (have you taken the hub off and looked at it?) or does it just need adjusting? Most people with a front bearing problem can either adjust the play out or change the bearings in the hub. Hope it's a lot simpler to fix than it sounds. David Quote
Guest Posted May 6, 2010 Posted May 6, 2010 David, Thanks for the reply. Yes the bearing is totally shot, the wheel nearly fell off when i took it to my friends garage. He's pulled it apart and has said that the hub is knackered and the axle could be scrubbed up but would be better to get a replacement. Any idea where i can get a replacement? or is it just worth going to a breakers. Regards Martyn Quote
DavidR Posted May 6, 2010 Posted May 6, 2010 AFAIU Cortina uprights are getting hard to find but I would suggest a search on t'internet, locostbuilders website etc to try and track some down. A scrappie maybe but cortinas are almost too old to be current stock. Westfield alloy uprights are a possibility but much more expensive. westfield alloy uprights Remember that if you have cycle wings the cortina upright may need some modification depending on the bracket used. Compare old and new carefully especially top ball joint web/lug thickness. Quote
Guest Posted May 7, 2010 Posted May 7, 2010 David, Thanks for the Westfield link. I have located a hub now and stud axle from a shop called 'The Old Shop' who deal with all Cortina's from 1970 onwards. Got the parts being delivered early part of next week. To be honest i think i may invest in some new front hubs if the problem happens again as those Westfield ones look quite nice and at least i'll be able to get parts for them. Also going to get the nearside wheel bearing changed as a matter of precaution too. Thanks again Martyn Quote
Guest Posted May 7, 2010 Posted May 7, 2010 Tony, Thanks also for the eBay link, as i said to David i have found some one who can supply me with the parts i need however may look in upgrading the whole hub assembly if it fails again. Love the phrase at the bottom of your profile about Evo's...... Regards Martyn Quote
