Insurance Renewals After an Accident

Recommended Posts

Has anyone had a claim on their insurance after an incident in their westy.  Out of interest how much was the renewal increased by compared to how much the claim was for.

Interested as I had a ding in mine and am wanting to prepare myself for next year.

Claim was for £6500.  My insurance went up from £250 to £340.  However, the £250 was the deal you get with footman james when you buy a car from the factory.  I got an independant quote when I bought the car and it was £317, so effectively it only really went up £23.  I was surprised when they said £340 for the renewal, and phoned them to make sure they had taken account of the accident, and they said yes.  BUT, the claim was only a couple of weeks before renewal.  I still have a feeling they haven''t fully taken it into account, and I will get stung next year.  I'd be interested to hear how much other people's has changed.  Actually, thinkihng about it, I think my renewal must be in a couple of weeks.

I only had a small dink (new nosecone and indicators about £200 - £300 can't remember exactly). My premium only went up from about 190 to 210 so not too bad. Shame about the increase on my road car premium though!

How comes you made a claim for £200, why didn't you just pay it and not claim?

Might have had something to do with the MX5 I hit......

Sorry, no idea. He would have needed a new bumper, bit hopefully that was it.....

When I said £6500, that was my damage.  The golf I hit probably had a few thousand of damage as well as my nosecone dragged down the edge of their car.  Nice.

Out of interest are you with Adrian Flux, and did you have any protected no claims, and also how old are you as this may affect mine as I am only 23

Is that directed at me or DickieB?  I am with Footman James, and I was 26 at the time of the crash.

Just got my renewal through from Footman James, for £280, so I guess last years did take account of my accident.  Why can't all car insurance be this cheap?

1st year £250 (deal from the factory, would have been £311 otherwise)

2nd year (after £10000ish claim) £340

3rd year £280

can't complain.  Shame they don't provide track day cover.

I'm 23 and am just about to make a claim that'll be amounting to 2-3k after an unexpected meeting with a bridge, so I'll be finding out soonish what the likely increase is going to be. I'll keep you posted.
