LRP v Additives v Conversion

Looking for a bit of advice here. I have a 1992 SEI with a Vulcan X-flow, 147BHP at wheels, the engine has only done about 1700 miles since new. It had been laying around for a while in a garage. So it is not converted. Been using LRP. On a recent rolling road Tune, I was told unleaded with Castrol Multivalve additive is fine for normal road use (I dont race, but do push it reasonably hard). Vulcan talk £200 for a conversion. Should I convert or is the additive fine for a year or two..?

The additive should be fine, just don't mix it with an additive of a different make, or any LRP. Pushing it on the road is nothing like racing, either, so sustained revs for long periods really aren't an issue.

If it was my money, I'd shop around for a better price on an unleaded conversion and get it done. It saves worry and money in the long run, although in the case of saving money the long run is VERY long...........but ultimately well worth while, IMO.

... and while you're deciding what to do - have a look at the  Leaded Petrol Finder - you may find you can still source leaded petrol near you - I know my Xflow runs a lot better on it, but the next best alternative I've found is Optimax + additive - so much better than LRP

I believe Optimax is the highest Octane rating. Glad to hear it works well. Which additive are you using..?

I run Optimax and the Millers additive in my X-flow, which does 194 at the fly, and it runs very well.

My X-flow "sounds" very very fractionally better on 4star than LRP. Slightly cleaner edge.  Fully agree next best is optimax + additive (which I scrounged out of Texaco Tech department...)

leaded petrol and 20 Litre jerrycans aren't hard to find... and leaded petrol now has the absolute minimum in it - about 10% of the amount of lead as was used up to the early 80's

Its made from adding TetraEthylLead to SUL hence 4 Star Leaded is the highest Octane rated fuel you can easily buy, but IMHO its best not to optimise your timing based on pure 4star in case you need to fill with LRP or SUL+additives. ;)
