jezmilligan Posted October 17, 2002 Posted October 17, 2002 Oh dear - the middle section of my exhaust is starting to look a little rusty. Anyone know any treatments/protective coatings that can be used which will stand the heat? Jez Quote
Blatman Posted October 17, 2002 Posted October 17, 2002 Camcoat That reminds me..........I must give 'em a ring, see how my exhaust is getting on........... Quote
jezmilligan Posted October 20, 2002 Author Posted October 20, 2002 Thanks Blatman - looks good and not expensive - I'll have to get it done next year. I'm looking for something more immediate right now though - hopefully something I can just paint on to remove the rust and protect the exhaust? Quote
Blatman Posted October 20, 2002 Posted October 20, 2002 In that case, remove as much rust as possible with a wire brush and maybe a flap wheel in a drill or a wire brush equipped bench grinder. Then heat the section with a blow torch, and spray on some Hycote exhaust paint (available from Halfords). Apply 3 or 4 thin-ish coats while the piece is still hot. Don't be afraid to re-apply heat between coats, you won't do it any harm. When you re-assemble, use copperslip in the joining faces as a token effort against it rusting solid, and so that you don't need to cut it off when you come to dis-assemble it in the future. Me, I'd suffer a week of the car being in bits and get it camcoated sooner rather than later. Quote
jezmilligan Posted October 21, 2002 Author Posted October 21, 2002 Thanks - I'll give it a go this weekend. Quote
