Darrell O'Neill Posted April 15, 2010 Posted April 15, 2010 Anyone had any experience with the mr. shifta caravan movers for shifting a trailer with the westie on it? where i keep my trailer is about 100yds down a narrow drive, using one of these could mean i dont have to back all the way down with the car. Any thoughts.... Mr. Shifta caravan movers............. Quote
cliveboy8 Posted April 15, 2010 Posted April 15, 2010 Looks good but depends how much. What about a home made version with a high power battery and a washing machine motor? Suggest you have a word with either Sir Clive Sinclair or Mr Dyson. Quote
carpetstu Posted April 15, 2010 Posted April 15, 2010 Tried and tested by my uncle on a caravan. simple answer bag of crap and not worth the money Quote
Darrell O'Neill Posted April 15, 2010 Author Posted April 15, 2010 'new' they are silly money £500-600 but see them on ebay for circa £200... would mean that i could actually 'drive' the trailer in and have access to the rear. ... I see they do home demo's, perhaps they would give me a demo everytime I come home from an event Quote
carpetstu Posted April 15, 2010 Posted April 15, 2010 if you have a small and i do mean small incline or ridge of any type it will just slip honest they are useless Quote
cliveboy8 Posted April 15, 2010 Posted April 15, 2010 'new' they are silly money £500-600 That is outragious. When they come to do a demo do they wear a mask? Still think the home made version could do the job surely for under £200?? Quote
KerryS Posted April 15, 2010 Posted April 15, 2010 In the caravanning world [hides behind sofa] movers that have been most successful are ones where a roller drives onto the tyres. Ones that replaced the jockey wheels have been generally discredited, see the number that are for sale; however the one you have found has been a little more succesful than the jockey wheel replacement types. With a vertical load on the ball hitch of around 75kg compared to, say 750kg on the road wheels, getting enough grip to move the trailer with a Mr Shifta is always going to be a little behind the game IMHO Quote

Mr shifta is a hitch attached unit and it crap. Quote
carpetstu Posted April 15, 2010 Posted April 15, 2010 Of course the other issue with a axle unit is it needs a battery that needs a charging system, it will use charge very quick. Quote

That's easy - hook it up to the Westy, leave the engine running and when you get to where you're going, all charged up again Quote

Second that. This is exactly the set up I have for moving my trailer about 160yds down a fairly narrow grassed "alley" into the field where I store the trailer. No problem moving it with or without the westie on board. My little tracter is a Mountfield with a 15hp briggs & stratton - works a treat. Quote
