Nick PC Posted April 15, 2010 Posted April 15, 2010 May be silly question but have you checked if the recovery data has been deleted as may be set up from start up. Secondly have you tried finding drivers using the service tag number on the sticker on the bottom of the computer. Quote
pistonbroke Posted April 15, 2010 Author Posted April 15, 2010 Hi Nic Not sure what you mean regards the recovery data As for the Dell site, yes I did use the correct product tag for my lappy toppy Quote
Nick PC Posted April 15, 2010 Posted April 15, 2010 Bernie Check at the link to see if the partition is still there with infoClicky You may find that seller has done agood job and deleted everything but worth a try. Quote
pistonbroke Posted April 15, 2010 Author Posted April 15, 2010 If I right click my computer then select 'manage' I can see there is just the one primary partition ( C:/ ) I think there might have been a dell recovery partition but its been deleted during a clean install of XP Pro Just noticed that the @ and " keys are mixed up , that is pressing @ button gives me an " and vicky verky , seem to remember reading something on this , can cause recognising hardware issues Quote
John Loudon - Sponsorship Liaison Posted April 15, 2010 Posted April 15, 2010 The @ and " keys being mixed up is just down to the keyboard being setup for the US. Go into Control panel and then regional settings and add UK English and remove the US one. Its also worth downloading and installing XP SP3 as SP2 is well out of date WRT to the drivers, try searching on the model rather than the Service Tag number. An alternative might show up in the listings Quote
Blatman Posted April 15, 2010 Posted April 15, 2010 Drivers may be available from the manufacturer of the hardware, so check who's sound card and video card is installed and then browse to the manufacturer web site. It may be worth trying Vista drivers, surprisingly Be careful leaping in with SP3 on a laptop too. It is known to cause the odd issue here and there, and with the already malfunctioning sound and video hardware, it may be adding more temporary frustration to the mix... Quote
