Got a Clarke one from Machine Mart. Had it for a few years now. Good quality finish, easy to use. I'd buy another one...

why would you want two ? :p

Well he has two of everything to reduce risk on service due to failure.  :D

I made and fitted a swivel eye in the garage ceiling and use a simple 1 Tonne chain pulley with a home made balance bar (adjust the chain/hook ratio) - no storage issues and cheap - simply bring the car to the pulley although I am lucky and have a garage big enough so can move the car around and back and forward.

Machine Mart one will be fine, but if its only a one off for putting the engine in pete , then you could hire one for about £25.

Ta Mark, I can see the engine going in and coming out 4 times in the next 10 months ;), so economies point to purchase.

Are you changing your name to Stu Pickles :p  :p  :p

I had assumed he mean lifting beam. The cost of RSJ a host is more flexible and probably cheaper.

Its ok, I built a detached garage 20 years ago with a room above the garage and have the lifting eye strapped across two sandwiched 275mm x 75mm joists bolted together. It will easily take the weight.

In an ideal world I`d fit a UB and dolly so I could traverse the pulley but its lifted Hilux, XE, Rover V8 and ABF engines c/w gearboxes with no issues.

Its also lifted front ends of Westy`s, Ginetta G27`s and Golfs with no issues either  :p

Picked up the crane from Moody Blue today...ta Mike, Liza says should she start saving up for the house now? ;)

I'm going to put my RSJ plan on hold until I know whether this garage is to be demolished or kept (and I won't know that for a couple of years).
