chassis frame

More of an observation than a question, but whilst preparing to fit the propshaft and hence lying underneath the chassis I applied a straightedge to the various rows of rivets on the aluminium and discovered that the chassis members are not dead straight/flat.  Over a 450 to 600 mm range the chassis appears to curve by 1 or 2 mm.  Is this normal? Perhaps due to distortion from welding?  As an example. the top members of the transmission tunnel appear straight but the bottom members have a slight bow upwards around the seat supports?

I don't think this is a problem but virtually every part of the chassis has some distortion from true.

I guess that will do for tonights trivial question!

Cheers

Can't say I ever looked that closely. Maybe the underside is bowed upwards slightly to "stress" it against the weight of engine, passengers, etc.

I think the only real answer is to give the factory a call if you're concerned and describe what you've found.
