biggles001 Posted April 13, 2010 Posted April 13, 2010 As I live in France I would like to know if anyone has bought a RHD car and converted it to LHD. Which is the best model to convert? Anyone heard about the Dutch SVA regulations that will make it easier to register a car in France? Quote

Anyone heard about the Dutch SVA regulations that will make it easier to register a car in France? Hi Biggles, You can go on the Sevener forum where you will find all the tips and tricks for the registration in France. You will have the same problems with a car firstly registered in UK or Belgium or Holland or Germany : if you have no european COC for the car, then you will have to follow the difficult way. My pseudo on Sevener is Cricrimobile Oh, and about the RHD to LHD : yes it's possible. But I drive my RHD Westfield in Belgium and it's not a problem. Regards Chris Quote
biggles001 Posted April 13, 2010 Author Posted April 13, 2010 Thanks for the info. I see that the sevener site for the immatriculation has not been updated since 2007. I was told recently that even the cars that have entered France on the donor licence plate will have problems to stay in France. They will have to pass the French tests again. This is why the Dutch were setting up tests for kit cars. Quote
Dirk Schauvliege Posted April 13, 2010 Posted April 13, 2010 Hi, I live in Belgium and know somebody who got his car changed from RHD to LHD, cost about 700 € in total, work of course not included. I think it's a big advantage to have a LHD (as I do) if you want to pass another car which will happen frequently if you push the pedal. Where do you live in France. This summer I go on holidays in the Provence and plan to tow my Westfield behind me. Dirk Quote
DreamingNeonBlack Posted April 14, 2010 Posted April 14, 2010 Part cost is not high, but labour cost will make your bill grow a lot. I was very worried about driving a RHD outside UK. My first feedback after about 700 miles is that is much easier than I expected! Now I don't have conversion plans anymore. Quote
chris7273 Posted April 14, 2010 Posted April 14, 2010 My experience in Belgium : People are driving near the left border, leaving then a nice angle of view on the right side. If you are frightened to drive a rhd on continental european roads, and if you are sure that you will never get used to it, and if you can't do the conversion work yourself, then you know what to do Regarding the fact that already registered cars should pass the tests again, I am curious to know the source. It's really doubtful that a registration will be withdrawn if this registration was legally obtained.... "Légende urbaine ?" On Sevener, you can also ask and not only read the old topics don't be shy Quote
DreamingNeonBlack Posted April 15, 2010 Posted April 15, 2010 My suggestion is to try driving it before making any conversion. I'm quite sure that a "converted" car won't need any new registration since documents don't have any info about where the driving wheel is located! At least they don't have in Italy... Quote
