rose5691 Posted April 12, 2010 Posted April 12, 2010 After all the considerations of upgrades on my Zetec-cams, ecu, head, tb's etc...I've gone off the idea of tb's as the cost would not justify the power. I suppose it would make sense to start with the "brain", then add the "body" so to speak Next thought is which make-Omex 200 or Dunnell. both similar in price and I guess also similar in plug and play ability. Any thoughts? Omex do seem highly regarded but Dunnell seem to have a very good name. Any thoughts and opinions welcomed. Cheers in advance, John. Quote
Guest Posted April 12, 2010 Posted April 12, 2010 a dunnell ecu will be matched to the upgrades if you buy them from Paul , and allow you to run things without needing to have them mapped on the rollers , and they will be pretty close (even though all engines are slightly different) If paul builds and tweaks his map on the dyno then things will be even more impressive. I had a stonking 225bhp engine from paul on carbs , and it was truly awesome . Quote
rose5691 Posted April 12, 2010 Author Posted April 12, 2010 What engine and carbs? Also, omex you can go to many places to remap but Dunnell, you have to go there? Quote
tex Posted April 12, 2010 Posted April 12, 2010 if you buy a dunnell system it comes pre set.. You dont have to go to rollers.. The system i bought for the zetec i had in the dax was throttle bodies ecu the whole system.. Easy to fit and worked straight out the box.. Not cheap tho.. You can buy the bits seperate tho.. Which i think would need a trip to rollers.. The kits are upgradable later on.. Again.. Really pricey.. But good.. Quote
cast iron Posted April 12, 2010 Posted April 12, 2010 Ultimately are you always going to buy your upgrades from Dunnel? I would go aftermarket, I have Omex it hasnt been without its issues but always resolved Look for a system thats supported by your local rolling road, why not ring northampton and see what they recomend? RedditchJay Posted April 13, 2010 Posted April 13, 2010 ditto.... I have Dunnel and my problem was when with Troy at NTN Msport we couldnt alter the timing.... the ignition is very good but pre set. Quote

Megajolt (loads of standard zetec maps around) - Then spend the rest of the money on cams ;-) A bit more work, but is another option...... Quote
stephenh Posted April 14, 2010 Posted April 14, 2010 I cant comment on the ECUs, but my only contact with Paul Dunnell was not a pleasant one. I wont go into details on a public website, but lets just say his attitude was part of the reason that I am now a very happy customer of Troy at NMS and Simon Armstrong of Ultimate performance. The experience of others may be different, but towards me Paul was an arrogant and patronising t**t! Quote
rose5691 Posted April 14, 2010 Author Posted April 14, 2010 I am shocked. I have had nothing but brilliant service from him. He's been very patient with all my questions and I wish more people had his and NMSs' attitude and enthusiasm. Quote
Steven (WE51STE) Posted April 14, 2010 Posted April 14, 2010 Personally, I've only had experience with OMEX. I would say that they were the about the best company I have ever had dealings with regards to customer service and satisfaction. I would always reccomend them. Steve Quote

John Loudon - Sponsorship Liaison Posted April 14, 2010 Posted April 14, 2010 I spoke to paul Dunnell only the other day and found him frustrating to get a straight answer out of him without a load of waffle. Probably a nice bloke but not easy to deal with IMO Quote
