Protective cup for engine mounting rubbers

3 quick questions:

My build manual says that the protective cups aound the engine mounting rubbers are optional. Is this true or will I need them for the SVA. (I don't have any so thought I'd check before trying to get some).

The build manual says to attach the right hand engine mounting bracket using 2 M10x20mm & 1 M10x60mm + spacer: what spacer is this?  ???  (Zetec engine)

Lastly, the aforementioned bolts: are they bolts or set screws - the manual contradicts itself & I have neither so need to get some!

Thanks,

- Dan.

They are not required for the SVA as far as I am aware. I fitted them to mine but it is not clear what their function is to be honest!

If you attach the mount to the engine using the top LH Bolt and the bottom bolt, you will notice that there is no immediate mounting in the block casting for the third bolt. Mine interfaces with the casting that attaches the alternator to the block and differs in style detailing to that shown in the manual in that it 'sweeps' forward a little. If yours is styled like mine and not like the manual then you will also need this extra alternator mounting piece. If you have a mounting like that shown in the manual then attaching the mounting as I describe above will show you where the spacer goes and what size it should be (in theory!!;). Oh to have been able to see an identical COMPLETED car whilst I was building mine!!

Lastly, the aforementioned bolts: are they bolts or set screws - the manual contradicts itself & I have neither so need to get some!

Mine as supplied by Westfield were BOLTS.

Think you'll find the cups were to resist excessive flex in the factory rubbers (think trifle!! )

Get some uprated ones Midland performance centre do 'em....

Hi lux

I've got std Westfield engine mounts but am concerned that the engine can move quite a bit.  What sort of steady have you got ?  Is it home made ?  A bit more info would be helpful.

PS sorry if I'm hijacking the thread but it seems relevant.
