johnnywiggla Posted April 13, 2010 Posted April 13, 2010 Why have you only got 1" clearance. Even my racecar has more than that! It's not far from it. 1" as a figure of speach but my cvh sits k*n low and bottoms out quite a bit Quote
peterg Posted April 13, 2010 Posted April 13, 2010 Sounds like you either need to raise the ride height or get a cutdown sump made for it 'cos sooner or later you're going to hole the sump on a raised cats eye or drain cover... The village (Broad Chalke) is about 600 yards or so away so only 5-10 minutes walk (it is all uphill to Gurston from there) there's a pub in the village called the Queens Head and you should be able to park near that Quote
johnnywiggla Posted April 13, 2010 Posted April 13, 2010 Thanks for the info I've ordered some C spanners so will check the height when they arrive Quote
johnnywiggla Posted April 13, 2010 Posted April 13, 2010 Anyone know what the ride height should be as I'm getting different info from the build manual to info on websites ? Thanks Quote
stephenh Posted April 14, 2010 Author Posted April 14, 2010 try and get your front bottom wishbones horizontal. Seems to be about 125mm. clearance under the front chassis crossmember on most Westies. Then adjust the rear so that the crossmember immediately behind the floor is about 145mm clearance. If you run on 13" wheels then the clearance may well be lower than this, with the front wishbones at the ideal angle, depending on the width and cross-section of the tyres. Main thing seems to be, get the front bottom wishbone level, and then have the back 15 or 20mm. higher than the front. Hopefully that will give you a bit more clearance than you have now! Quote
johnnywiggla Posted April 14, 2010 Posted April 14, 2010 Thanks for that Westfield stated 145mm f and 165mm r. Mine was 125mm f and 160mm r so I've wound the front upto 145mm and see how it goes Quote

Mr & Mrs H like to go to bed early, and I want a good night's sleep, thank you very much! Quote
Terry Everall Posted April 16, 2010 Posted April 16, 2010 Stephen At your age you need less sleep and more alcohol I speak from experience in preparation to keep myself in racing snake condition Have a good one terry Quote
John Loudon - Sponsorship Liaison Posted April 16, 2010 Posted April 16, 2010 You can not set a car up based on ride height figures from the factory as cars generally will have different diametre wheels and tyres which will make using the figures irrelevent. You can only do it based on setting the geometry to the correct angles (wishbone angles) and then allowing for some rake (15-20mm difference in height front to rear. If I were you, I would set the front lower wishbones as Stephen says and then adjust the rear to be 15-20mm higher with you in the car and go from there. Obviously this will affect camber and toe which will need addressing afterwards Quote
RobC Posted April 18, 2010 Posted April 18, 2010 Had an awesome day yesterday, apart from the heavy frost over night sleeping in the pickup wasn;t much fun... but as the sun warmed up throughout the day our times and bravery came on. Just lifting through Hollow was a good test on nerves aswell as tyres Great venue though, marshalls made the whole day run very smoothly with a profenssional attitude with good sense of humour and good turn out of westy's too. got loads of pics to upload will post here when I've done em'. See you all at my next one Quote
