stephenh Posted April 12, 2010 Posted April 12, 2010 What are the arrangements for leaving cars overnight? Are we allowed to leave them in the paddock? Also, looking at the photos on the Gurston website, it looks a bit tight for space, and possibly not possible to park support vehicle behind or alongside the "race" car? Can anyone who has competed at this venue before give me some guidance? Oh, and do I need to brake for the left hander at the bottom of the hill? Quote
RobC Posted April 12, 2010 Posted April 12, 2010 from reading the regs it seems they have a trailer park for all comp vehicles... tried ringing them today to find out about CAMPING... but got no answer. Need to ring back See you Saturday Quote
peterg Posted April 12, 2010 Posted April 12, 2010 Trailer parking is in the field next to the paddock area, you can leave all your stuff there no problem, you can't park support vehicles or trailers in the paddock, it is strictly competition vehicles only you shouldn't have to brake for the lefthander at the bottom of the hill although your self-preservation instinct may kick in and make you lift a little Edit for clarification: there are much more powerful cars which will take the bottom bend very nearly flat... however, if you get the line wrong you will find out all about the infamous wall of death basically a raised grassy bank but I've seen some cars come to a messy end there Quote
RobC Posted April 12, 2010 Posted April 12, 2010 Do you have to pre-pay your camping.. or in my case sleeping in the car..? Quote
peterg Posted April 12, 2010 Posted April 12, 2010 Don't know, never slept there myself - I would think you could probably 'pay on the day' but then again if you don't leave the site and just kip in the car they may not realise you are 'camping' Quote

My paddock bay is next to the trailer park, so hopefully we can have the support vehicle close. Might take my gazebo to errect over the car, to make it a bit cozier, if we cant have the Volvo next to the Westie for shelter from inclement weather. The Volvo next to the Westie was a vital necessity at Castle Combe! Quote

Did that at combe... weather's meant to be lovely and sunny... Quote
peterg Posted April 12, 2010 Posted April 12, 2010 QUOTE weather's meant to be lovely and sunny if it is then it'll be dusty in the paddock area as it is a working farm Stephen a gazebo would be a good idea just in case the forecast is wrong Quote
johnnywiggla Posted April 12, 2010 Posted April 12, 2010 Hi All, Does anyone know if there is any parking outside on the main road. Last time i went (in a tintop), from memory you have to drive up a track then park in a field which is not going to be possible in my new (to me) Westy with about an inch of room under the CVH sump Quote
peterg Posted April 12, 2010 Posted April 12, 2010 If you've only got an inch of clearance under the sump then you'll struggle with cat's eyes plenty of people take low cars and park in the spectator's car park, just be careful... parking on the main road is frowned upon by plod and the local villagers so I wouldn't do that unless you want it towed you could park down in the village proper near the pub though and walk up if you're really worried Quote
johnnywiggla Posted April 13, 2010 Posted April 13, 2010 Thank peterg, Roughly how far away would you say the village is away as I really don't want to risk it. I went for a bimble around the New Forest at the weekend and couldn't park up anywhere without it touching Quote
Terry Everall Posted April 13, 2010 Posted April 13, 2010 Why have you only got 1" clearance. Even my racecar has more than that! Quote
