Type 9 information

but i cant find information on how wide it is (through the tunnel), how long it is (from edge to lever), do i have to have an extension, does anyone have a bellhousing from a VX.

My problem is that ive brought a Getrag that fits directly onto the VX but im afraid its too wide and the lever doesnt get near enough to the position shown in the manual so im now considering shopping for a Type 9.

Any info available would be appreciated.

Thanks

I've a Type 9 in the garage which I'll measure tomorrow, also an alloy bellhousing which probably came from SB Developments - it came off Graeme Finlayson's car so he can confirm or deny.

I'm not clear on what you mean by edge to lever - assuming you want the measurement from bellhousing mounting face to the lever.

My car has the wide (MT75) tunnel - 330mm.  The bellhousing has been machined to allow it to fit inside the tunnel.  I was told I wouldn't need the extension if the engine is far enough back in the chassis, hard up against the bulkhead in my case.

If you're shopping for a gearbox, I can recommend Steve Perks at SP Components - great guy to deal with.

Thanks Peter.

Yes, from the bellhousing connection to the lever is ideal, thanks.

and thanks for the contact, ill give him a shout.

Think id better also start a thread asking if i DO need a Type9 extension, of course those buggas at Westfield told me i would, still, spose they would!

QL,

sorry I didn't get a chance to measure the box tonight - in my defence I was out at the NISe7ens club meet.  Should have dimensions tomorrow afternoon.

Apologies

Nice one Sooty  :)

My gearbox measures 555mm from the bellhousing mount to the centre of the gearlever - would seem to be within tolerences then.

The bellhousing is 155mm deep.

Beaut drawing Sooty!

Where d'you get it? I'd like to see the similar one for the 4-speed version.

Do you have web source for such drwgs?

According to my copulations, the max torque input for the design life (stated as 200Nm) is equivalent to 144 ftlbs - not a lot! Makes me pleased I've got TranX internals  :)

Gazza I stumbled across the drawing a while ago when trying to find out which ratios were fitted to which models/years etc. I’m afraid I don’t have one for the 4 speed. ???

Quick tip.................ANY picture (including avatars) can have their sources revealed by right-clicking the picture, and choosing "properties". You can copy and paste the resulting url into another browser window, and have a look. Judicious deleting of url extensions will see you arriving at the homepage, hopefully............
