Cleggy the Spyder Man Posted April 6, 2010 Posted April 6, 2010 Not many drag strips around in the country or europe so if you have not been before it really is worth the effort of travelling to make one of the main events at the Pod If you have never seen a top fuel draggster giving it some beens - well trust me you have never heard anything like it (even air shows in the good old days when planes were allowed to get really close can recreate the sheer thunderous volumes and ground shaking ability of on/two of these machines) - low 5 second quarter miles and around 270 mph - laugh you will The jet cars/bikes and trucks are fantastic too Only been a few times myself but it always enjoyable but totally weather dependant - costs £25 to get in per adult (kids go free up to a certain age) so is expensive but in line I suppose with other events - facilities are a little bit better than they used to be but still basic ever wondered how they transported these around --- different offset on these wheels jet car loads of other stuff to see and do - yes that is Peter Andre in the evo - I am pleased to say I missed him doing his stuff on the stage A free big up for the Pod Quote

jay.perry Posted April 6, 2010 Posted April 6, 2010 Been to Santa pod for Main Event and Euro Finals for past 7 years, both brilliant events! Until you've seen a top fuel car run a quarter mile at 4.6 seconds at 300mph+ you cant comprehend that kind of speed. These are 4 day events and if booked in advance are about £56 inc camping, so if compared to a 90min football match at £25 seems good value! Quote
BobS Posted April 6, 2010 Posted April 6, 2010 Took my son along yesterday - top day out Lots to see and do. £25 a bit steep, but offset by free entry for kids. I have never seen Terry Grant's show before so was pretty impressed when he set the Legend donutting and then got out and left it going My lad is obviously being brainwashed at school - he asked me about the co2 emissions of the drag racers I told him it was ok as they didn't have to go very far Quote
mogwi Posted April 6, 2010 Posted April 6, 2010 Remember going in the early 80's, watching Sammy Miller blowing the windows out of the commentary boxes above the start line with his rocket car 'Vanishing Point'. Quote
spence Posted April 7, 2010 Posted April 7, 2010 A tip. Whatever you do, don't stay in the stands at the back with the jet cars waiting at the lights. Stood in the stands years ago at Bug Jam and it was one of those times I was actually frightened for my life. I had to jump off the back of the stand with no idea how high or what was underneath me as the smoke filled the stand. An excellent day out though. Quote
