schoare1 Posted October 10, 2002 Posted October 10, 2002 I've just checked on the price of a exhaust manifold from Westfield for a 2l pinto engine, at £200+ I think this is expensive, just for a manifold. I want it now as I'm picking up the body work and want to be able to mark and cut the holes. Is there any where else I could get one at a better price? - bearing in mind I'll need the rest of the exhaust later. thanks Scott Quote
JamesD Posted October 11, 2002 Posted October 11, 2002 I have been looking into the same thing and I beilieve the answer is no. You can get one fabricated but they will need the car for that, plus it costs about £400+ from somewhere like wunoff. I will probably end up buying my manifold from Westfield and my silencer from Techcraft or Wunoff. JD Quote
steppenwolf Posted October 11, 2002 Posted October 11, 2002 Scott, I think that you will find that £200.00 is reasonable value to be honest. I had one specially made for me and it cost £430.00 including vat for the primaries and the sequential collector. In fairness, this was part of a rather special system ( 93dB measured at Goodwood!! ) but it gives an indication of the cost of bespoke fabrication. With regard to marking and cutting the exit hole, you need to do this later in the build as the engine needs to be in position and the body tub fitted to gauge the final exit position of the downpipes - rather a 'chicken before the egg' scenario . I found this to be a 'scary' operation but successsful nonetheless. The following article from my build site may assist! How do you determine the position of the side exhaust cut out? Quote
Westfieldman Posted October 11, 2002 Posted October 11, 2002 Thats the hard way Steve Easy way BEFORE BODYWORK is fitted fit engine etc fit the exhaust system use the front or the chassie as a datum and measure back to the pipes then measure down to the pipes do not loose these diminsions remove the system and fit the body. Fit body work, use masking tape and mark out reduce the hole size by 10mm all round then cut out the hole refit the system and enlarge the hole as needed. Paul. Quote
steppenwolf Posted October 11, 2002 Posted October 11, 2002 Thats the hard way Steve Paul, I'm sure you are right - it was not easy although I did get a perfect cut-out that several people have commented favourably on! Sadly, as I was a real newbie, I followed the build order as detailed in the manual but I can see that your method has much merit! Quote
