waynem Posted October 9, 2002 Posted October 9, 2002 Planning an SEiW build with Zetec 2.0 and Type 9. To help me out planning I got a build manual from Westfield. It explicity states that the Zetec engine can only be used with MT75 box. Wrong I know. Where the confuison comes in is how the Zetec/Type9 combination mounts to the chassis. Are mods required ? One advantage of using the Type9 is that the engine is mounted further back. Won't this mean engine/gearbox mounts miss the pre-drilled/welded chassis mounts ? Not an insurmountable problem, but one I want to be aware of before ploughing ahead all willy-nilly ! Nearly bottled it and persuaded myself to get an MT75... Anyway, seems everyone else is managing to mate engine/gearbox with chassis, so can't be rocket science. You`re not all rocket scientists are you ? Wayne M Quote
steppenwolf Posted October 9, 2002 Posted October 9, 2002 With an MT75 Gearbox and Zetec engine, the thermostat housing is already very close to the bulkhead (so much so that grounding the sump will push the engine back just enough to smash the plastic housing) so I don't see how the Type 9 will allow you to get the engine any further back in an SEiW chassis. If you had a narrow body chassis, the bell housing of the MT75 would be the deciding factor for rearward placement of the engine as the transmission tunnel is too narrow to allow the gearbox to move back a good way so here, a Type 9 would make sense. Kevin Wood Posted October 9, 2002 Posted October 9, 2002 A Raceline water rail might buy you a little more clearance behind the head and reduce the risks associated with contact. Failing that you'd be into chassis mods to get the engine much further back. Maybe it'd be further back than a type 9 in a narrow body, but I wouldn't have thought it'd be MUCH further back than a MT75 in a wide body. For all the work you'd have to do moving the engine mounts for an inch or two, I doubt it would be worth it. Kevin Quote
