thos Posted March 30, 2010 Posted March 30, 2010 Folks, Got a Land Rover Discovery 3 for towing my Brian James Clubman, but the tow-bar seems very high, trailer was very heavy on it's back axle and not very stable. It's got a removeable swan-neck, but doesnt appear to have any adjustment for lowering. It looks like Land Rover do a different multi-height tow-bar: http://www.shop4landrover.co.uk/product....R007484 So, is anyone else out there using a Disco 3 for the same job? Any other solutions to save myself £300? I've seen spacers for the trailer before, but the nose on my trailer looks to have the tow-hitch, brakes, handbrake and jockey wheel altogether so would be a tough one to try and raise. Any other solutions? Regards, Tom Quote
carpetstu Posted March 30, 2010 Posted March 30, 2010 Let the air out the tyres on the tow car , job done Quote
thos Posted March 30, 2010 Author Posted March 30, 2010 It's got the hydraulic suspension, so I lowered it to Access mode, but it doesnt like going too far when it's that low!!! Quote
wolfheze Posted March 30, 2010 Posted March 30, 2010 You can by an adapter plate to lower the tow bar, its just a square plate with four holes in it, two top ones bolt to the original towbar mounts and the two lower ones are for the towbar. drops the towbar height by about 4 inches. Quote

Is that a Land Rover part? I've seen a Witter one, but doesnt say how far it will drop it. I've got the swan-neck one at the moment. Quote

The Witter is only looking £25 cheaper online. I'm waiting to see if I can get a discount on the LR one from a mate who works there. Quote
XTR2Turbo Posted March 30, 2010 Posted March 30, 2010 I use the swan neck on my Disco 3 with a Brian James RS5 no problem at all. I have also got a minno max but haven't towed that yet with the Disco. I can try hitching it at the weekend. Quote
Guest Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 Could you not make up a spacing bracket to increase the height of the coupling on the trailer? I thought they were a bolted fitting. Quote
Gazhank Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 I think you can buy a spacer from brian james to compensate the height difference. There was one for sale on here last year as below. http://boardroom.wscc.co.uk/cgi-bin....22;hl=% Not sue how you do a link Quote
