AndyM Posted September 23, 2002 Posted September 23, 2002 Coming up to SVA and I'd prefer to have the sidescreens fitted as I have a long drive through the midlands (Earthquakes permitting....) Anyone know if the sidescreens are OK with SVA ? Quote
Blatman Posted September 23, 2002 Posted September 23, 2002 I *think* if they're fitted, they have to be non removable, which means threaded hinge pins and a nyloc nut on each to secure the side screen to the car. That may only be applicable to side screens that have mirrors attached to them though. If your side screens have no mirrors, and you're still conerned, take 'em off before you drive in to the test centre, and stash 'em in the boot........ Quote
tomo Posted September 23, 2002 Posted September 23, 2002 You would have to careful about edges with the hinges, fastenings, etc. Normal approach for SVA is to fit plastic boots over the w'screen pillar hinges. Even the pressstud for the retaining strap bay be an issue. Simon Quote
Ian Posted September 24, 2002 Posted September 24, 2002 I SVA'd mine with the side screens off. I vaguely recall that the visibility is an issue with them on. You can just remove them in the car park before the test, and put some adhesive foam over the press stud that normally keeps them closed. Three years ago, windscreen pillars were exempted from the sharp edges and projections requirements, so the points where the sidescreens attach were fine. I don't know if this has changed though..... The hood is definately not SVA OK though. Don't even install it before the SVA, as the 'lift the dot' fasteners used at the door openings are not compliant. Neither is the hood frame, when folded down. A piece of hose covers the hood brackets nicely though! Ian Quote
