DanB Posted March 16, 2010 Posted March 16, 2010 Best all-rounder: Porsche Cayman S - lovely to drive, surprisingly practical. It's a keeper. Worst: VW Passat 110TDi - horrible to drive, every panel bar the roof had a serious dent in it, and it needed quite a bit of work to keep it on the road. It was economical in terms of fuel, and given I did 60k miles in it, it was still very cheap motoring, but it really was grim. Quote
oioi Posted March 16, 2010 Posted March 16, 2010 Best: 1966 Shelby Mustang GT350, white with twin blue hood-to-trunk (bonnet-to-boot) stripes. Miss that car bad, right down to the sticker on the dash that said "Warning - Do not roll down windows at speeds over 110 MPH" - at that speed, rolling down the windows was about the last thing you had on your mind! It was more like, "If I turn, will the bias-ply tires (tyres) do anything except squeal like a pig?" i am soo jealous. not sure i want to own one, but to have one for a week would be pleasure enough Quote
oioi Posted March 16, 2010 Posted March 16, 2010 Best, hmm, that takes some thought. Between personal and company cars I guess I've had around 100, so the best must be those where I can remember the registration, so it's clear cut, it's KCL660G, Triumph TR5 - owned 1975-76. i sort of grew up (well, got bigger, having lived most of my life by the commandmant "thou shalt not commit adulthood", growing up has been hard to do) in the passenger seat of a tr5. my dad had one from when i was about 5 to 15 and i have such fond memories of that car. being made to udnerseal it aged 8 (i was small and could get underneath it easily - had to go to school on monday covered in the stuff and with clumps missing from my hair where my mum had cut it out), changing the engine aged 10. sitting in the passenger seat when the newly rebuilt engine blew at vmax on the m11 and the string of expletives no 10 year old should hear from there dad. happy happy days. was blown away when i saw this ad on pistonheads - http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/1545049.htm which is the same colour as the old mans. i have always fancied owning one myself at one point but hadnt realised they were now worth such stupid money! Hilts Posted March 16, 2010 Posted March 16, 2010 Worst car, Chrysler Sebering. Absolutely dreadful, two guys in an Audi S5 actually stopped to point and laugh at me on the M25 (thanks Enterprise rent a crate!). Best, Porsche 911 Turbo....tarmac missile Quote
oioi Posted March 16, 2010 Posted March 16, 2010 based on length of ownership its gotta be the westie (and tbh most of my other cars have been really sh1te!) worst - a long list, but headed by the 50quid nova that i bought as a run around when i realised the westie wasnt really suited as my only car. ended up arralditing the spark plugs into the head... gave it away to someone on the se7ens list, i think he wanted the battery... tex Posted March 16, 2010 Posted March 16, 2010 2 of the worst.. 1.0 micra cvt Had a loan corsa 3 cylinder jobbie - biggest pile of kak iv ever driven! Even worse than a 2cv Best.. I did like the dax rush. Bit heavy but nice to drive.. Quote
sailing Posted March 16, 2010 Posted March 16, 2010 The best were my first 100E, Cortina 16000E, TR6, S Type in that order. The worst is my wifes Fiat Punto. Only done 35k and needs new gearbox , power steering etc Fiat ought to be ashamed of themselves. At least Toyota have apologized. Fiat have got away with murder. Never buy one again. My Sunbeam Alpine was a near second. Quote
