Guest Posted September 15, 2002 Posted September 15, 2002 Hello all, 3 questions regarding wiring looms: 1) I am trying to decide on the best way to fix the loom running up the transmission tunnel. Originally, I was thinking about rivetting 'p' clips into the chassis rail and then using cable ties through the clips. However, after doing some routine maintenance on my 205 I noticed some lovely rivet/cable tie combos - a kind of plastic barbed 'rivet' that simply pushes into a hole, joined onto a cable tie. I found some on vehicle wiring products' website but am not sure how reliable in the long-term they would be..... Anyone had any experience? (or get any better ideas? ) 2) Is it normal to have some unused connections on the loom? I labelled all the connections listed in the manual and I had several without labels.... Also, a lot of my plugs had 2 wires going into the same pin: is this just redundancy? (as in the safety-critical sense) 3) Several places require a good earth connection, which means removing the epoxy coating. Once removed the chassis will start to rust.... What should I use (after fitting the connection) to prevent this? Some silicone sealant?? Hammerite??? Cheers, - Dan. Quote
Blatman Posted September 15, 2002 Posted September 15, 2002 1) I used a combination of rivets and adhesive to secure cable tie blocks to the aluminium panels in the tunnel, so that my chassis wasn't full of holes............I rivetted the blocks in with the head in the passenger compartment, so they look like a second row of panel fittings, although there are far fewer of them. 2) Can't remember, but it sounds plausible. Two wires is normally a common switch/fitting, or earth, for things like the indicators and headlights, IIRC 3) The earths on my sprint car seem to work without removing any powdercoating at all..........If you are concerned about corrosion, why not take a fly lead from the battery or engine earth, fit that to the earth point first, then run all the earths you need to that. A dollop of copperslip or vaseline should keep it all clean. Quote
tomo Posted September 19, 2002 Posted September 19, 2002 Whatever you do make sure its removable. My loom came out a couple of times for modification although mine was a non-standard build. I used small rivnuts and cap head screws to fit p clips. Tomo Quote
