westfield_bumble Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 Stripping me engine from last year or the year befores woes of extremely high compression. Lost total faith in my engine builder and trading standards were no help at all. 3 rebuilds so far so i've ended up due to lack of funds starting to rebuild myself. Just took the cam out and its marked "Ford 771m6250" Also stamped with "Rb8". 6XmO5gx5N9mqV1myhuHxWRX-Fb3wQeLz1CmjauUaG7pbPvs5FP&sig=AHIEtbRssQRIr__MuTjfqsuAPI42g-xuGw" target="_blank">From my googling i'm guessing its a bog standard cam. It went in with a kent 244 which got damaged due to lack of oil pressure on his behalf as he had not tightened the vernier pulley bolts and this ended up scoring the timing cover putting metal into the oil which caused the damage to the cam so he replaced the cam when he rebuilt it. So I just need to confirm that this is a standard cam not an equivalant to the kent 244 spec before i pay a visit Quote
pistonbroke Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 Sad story , this doesn't seem right at all Pity you didnt get the engine to an independant engineer from first day your suspicions where aroused and taken legal advice . Have you thought of persuing this in the small claims court Quote
westfield_bumble Posted March 4, 2010 Author Posted March 4, 2010 to say my westy mojo is none existent is an understatement. Small claims is very tempting but no idea how to go about it. I'm so peed off its untrue. How long have i got to make a claim against him as i think it was end of summer 2008 he started rebuilding for the first time. The alarm bells should of gone off to the builder when the new forged pistons were above the block height. He took some off the pistons when he should of measured up and realised the block had been decked too much previously. Hes supplied an oversize gasket which still wasn't thick enough so i decided to go for a new bottom end and sort it myself as funds are now very tight. Realistically I would say the pistons are now scrap really as i'll probably have to get the block decked to match the pistons to get the compression right. (it was over 300psi) 1700 xflow Quote
John Loudon - Sponsorship Liaison Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 Sounds standard to me unless its reground froma standard cam Think I would take it with me and beat him round the head with it! Quote

John Loudon - Sponsorship Liaison Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 Whack him round the back of the knees with it first and as he falls then get him on the head Quote

Yeah sounds like a reground... Ive had lots of problems with crossflow engine builders myself! I'll not going to slag them off on open forum but pm for ones to avoid? Scott, did we meet at Teeside Autodrome in 2008? Ive not had a reliable engine since then! Quote

Me memorys terrible How do i find out if its a reground? Quote
fraser.j.g Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 Mine had sump pressure issues and kept filling it's catch tank every4-5 laps! Turns out that was a broken piston caused by too higher compression and advanced timing. Before that i had a flywheel brake because it was lightened/machined to excess. Also ive had a cam follower disintergrate and it ruined all the bearings. The engines out again being rebuilt by Stanwood with forged pistons so fingers crossed (stanwood have been recommended to me by several westfielders) this time i'll get a full season out of it! Quote
westfield_bumble Posted March 4, 2010 Author Posted March 4, 2010 having gone back for a 2nd look i noticed the letters have been ground off the end of the numbers so maybe its been reground Quote
