RobC Posted March 2, 2010 Posted March 2, 2010 Never run anything on the westy other that 888's or yoko variants.. I have run the 888's in the wet and it's just not fun... whats a good option for wet use..? what do people use... Quote
Mark Stanton Posted March 2, 2010 Posted March 2, 2010 I've used R888 SG compound in wet / standing water at Llandow and were fine Quote
RobC Posted March 2, 2010 Author Posted March 2, 2010 hmmm.... my old 888's that I've just finished with where dreadful at combe... greasey track if wet... Llandows much more grippy-a-surface though ain;t it from memory. isn't it Mark... edit to add: I am on 13's Quote
davidgh Posted March 2, 2010 Posted March 2, 2010 Most seem to use AO21 or CR28 options for a wet tyre. These are better only where there really is standing water, though. Guy used my CR28s for one stint at the sodden Birkett last year and his normal AO48s for another; he was 1-2 seconds faster on the CR28s. Interestingly, Kumho also list their V70A K20 as a "cold or wet weather rally tyre"; not much tread depth though. I have found them surprisingly controllable if no actual puddles -- but that's no great endorsement as I'm a wus in the damp*. HTH *Bring it on, Pickles Quote
RobC Posted March 2, 2010 Author Posted March 2, 2010 cr29's I am assuming are Avons.. but not in the permitted list.. Looking at the others now Quote
Mark Stanton Posted March 2, 2010 Posted March 2, 2010 I would not recommend R888 in GG or GGG compounds in the wet for sprints Quote
GuyH Posted March 2, 2010 Posted March 2, 2010 Guy used my CR28s for one stint at the sodden Birkett last year and his normal AO48s for another; he was 1-2 seconds faster on the CR28s For various reasons (v different weather, the state of the AO48 tyres) that comparison is more misleading than helpful I should think. However, a certain Darren Berris who is no slouch in the rain was kind enough to show me how nicely he can go on the CR28s Quote
grahame Posted March 3, 2010 Posted March 3, 2010 Nothings going to stop you going off at Combe, 888's or whatever..... except rails. Consequences around Tower and Quarry are sometimes good for the parts vendors, which is of far more importance in supporting British industry. Quote
RobC Posted March 11, 2010 Author Posted March 11, 2010 Gonna give the 021's a go and already have 888's for the dry. thanks Quote
