V 8 Posted February 24, 2010 Posted February 24, 2010 I remember a scrute at 3 slaps who had a bee in his bonnet about ride height and was using an elbowed peice of 40mm plastic waste pipe to sweep under cars to check it. Quote
Blatman Posted February 24, 2010 Posted February 24, 2010 Same issue at Curbs with mine. I brought a pair of verynears to the start line to measure the pipe. It was nearly 42mm in some places, and on an uneven surface to boot But I also guess that means it my memory is all screwed up and it could well have been 40mm all along. I need to check my "official" log now... Quote
prelit Posted February 24, 2010 Author Posted February 24, 2010 I'm also pleased it's not 4" to the lowest point (approx. 10cm) If I raised my car to that min. it would look like it's ready for off road. So it looks that the min clearance is 4cm & this applies to the body work only. My guess is a lowered seat pan floor could still be classed as the 'body' but is this measured with the driver aboard (as competing in an event)? cheers. Prelit. Quote
Blatman Posted February 24, 2010 Posted February 24, 2010 It about interpretation by the scrute on the day though. I always think ride height is measured from the chassis, and is not simply the lowest point on the car. So I now always try for as much clarity as I can as often as I can... Quote
Annie Posted February 24, 2010 Posted February 24, 2010 It's 40mm according to the Blue Book but don't forget the other requirement that no part of the car (other than the nose) should touch the ground if a tyre deflates. Annie. Quote

Plays-Kool Posted February 25, 2010 Posted February 25, 2010 It is definatley 4cm for sprint and hillclimb events. This is measured using a 4cm block which must be able to be freely moved under all areas of the bodywork of the car. They can use other measuring devices, but that is the most usual. When the car is ready to run with the driver sat in it. How do I know, not only is it in the rules, but it's the singles seaters that actually get checked. Annie is also correct about the tyre deflated, but as you can imagine, this is less of an issue. Nick Quote
prelit Posted February 26, 2010 Author Posted February 26, 2010 Thanks for all your advice, I've set the ride height with the 13" rims paying attention to the suspension geo. & its not as low as I feared. Passing at 4cm is no problem even with me sat in the car. Prelit. Quote
guy g Posted March 11, 2010 Posted March 11, 2010 It's 40mm under anything (sumps, splitters, seat pans, loose wires....). The opnly thing allowed to be closer than 40mm from the groung are the tyres...! The scrutineers are right. Quote
