prelit Posted February 24, 2010 Posted February 24, 2010 Hi Guys, Does anyone know what the min. clearance is? 4cms rings a bell. If it 4cms then does it apply to the body or to the lowest point of the car (such as sump)? Is it measured with the driver sat in the vehicle? Thanks in advance, Prelit. Quote
Blatman Posted February 24, 2010 Posted February 24, 2010 4 INCHES... And according to the rules I saw for the race series, it's the height to the chassis. BUT, at Curborough some years ago in the Speed Series, I failed the height test as the "scrutineer" (and I use the term loosely ) measured under my sump. But even when you show them the rules and *prove* their measurements are fatally flawed, they still insist they are right. So double check the regs carefully and have them to hand if you get pulled... Quote
John Loudon - Sponsorship Liaison Posted February 24, 2010 Posted February 24, 2010 I can pretty much guarentee its not 4 INCHES. 45mm is in my mind. if you are anywhere near this with a Westfield than your suspension has collapsed Quote
a4gom Posted February 24, 2010 Posted February 24, 2010 Blue book used to say 4cm to body haven't checked this years yet. Don't believe its mentioned in speed series regs so blue book would stand. Quote
Blatman Posted February 24, 2010 Posted February 24, 2010 Race Series regs say 4 inches... The minimum ground clearance must not be less than 4” (100mm), measured from the underside of the chassis rail (front and rear) to the ground and measured with the driver out. from page 5 of the race series thread... I remember my problem clearly, as 4 inches is not quite as wide as my hand, and my hand would fit under the sump... just... This is for road going clars. "Sports Libre" and other slick or "non road going" classes may be different. Quote
prelit Posted February 24, 2010 Author Posted February 24, 2010 Thanks for the replies, Looking at a 2009 blue book & I have found :- Body 47. Ground clearance of all bodywork must be 4cm minimum. I can't find any other referance to minimum ground clearance nor to how it's measured. Prelit. Quote
John Loudon - Sponsorship Liaison Posted February 24, 2010 Posted February 24, 2010 Blatters - that sounds like it is that from a specific race series set of regs and not Blue Book? Prelit - titanium skids for you my friend Quote
Blatman Posted February 24, 2010 Posted February 24, 2010 Can't remember now, but I did have the Blue Book with me at the time as that was what I was waving in the face of the "scrutineer" as my contention was that ride heigth was measured to the chassis not the b****y sump. This *was* quite a while ago now to be fair. As you say, if it's 45mm, then I'd need wheels under my sump. But this was a Speed Series round (our own, at Curborough) and I failed the ride height test Still gets me hot under the collar... Quote

prelit Posted February 24, 2010 Author Posted February 24, 2010 John, I'm just setting a new base line with 13" rims & new springs. Looking to run as low as possible without upsetting the geo. too much. I can ensure you the 'body' will be more than 40mm !!!! Cheers, Prelit. Quote
John Loudon - Sponsorship Liaison Posted February 24, 2010 Posted February 24, 2010 Like it. Low chassis. Body on stilts Quote
stephenh Posted February 24, 2010 Posted February 24, 2010 Section S of this year's bluebook, at para 10.2, says 4 cm. I haven't checked the Speed Series regs, but I cannot recall seeing anything in there about min. ground clearance. I'm glad it isn't 4", my road-going Westie, on 15" wheels, is only about 85mm under the chassis hoop which protects the transmission! Thats less than 3 1/2", and thats without me sitting in the vehicle! Quote
peterg Posted February 24, 2010 Posted February 24, 2010 There is no ride height regulation specific to the Speed Series, please consult the Blue Book for the correct information Quote
