Bob Green Posted February 21, 2010 Posted February 21, 2010 To keep a long and boring story short, I was playing about with the sound controls on the PC whilst listening to music. As the music sounded a little quiet, given the position of the volume control on the speakers, I went into the Control Panel and started playing about with the settings. Mistake #1. Now all I have is the left front & rear speakers along with the sub. Zippo out of the right. I have tried adjusting the balance. When I shut the left off and increase the right to maximum, it only comes out of the left, so I reckon I have disabled something but don’t know what! You must understand, me fixing a PC to make it work has the same chance of Attila the Hun opening a hospital to care for children! Oh, by the way, I didn’t look at the volume bar on the Media player, which was not at maximum. Mistake #2. Quote
Man On The Clapham Omnibus Posted February 21, 2010 Posted February 21, 2010 When I screw things up I go for a system recovery/reset to a time and date prior to my interference. Seems to work... Quote
Bob Green Posted February 21, 2010 Author Posted February 21, 2010 Thanks Clive I tried a restore but I still have the same isues. I can hear a small "hissing" from the right speakers which tells me there is a signal going to them. Quote
SparkyB Posted February 21, 2010 Posted February 21, 2010 Have you checked the speaker connections, sounds like you have the jack into the computer partially out. Quote

I was just wondering how long it would take someone to suggest that (nose grows past next door's conservatory). I have been in enginering for 40 odd years and didn't check the blinding obvious. Next thing you will know is I will probably unknowingly buy a house next to SteveD! Jesus Christ, what a twonk I am. The plug went in just enough to make a connection. Thanks for your (it now works) suggestion. Quote
davehall Posted February 21, 2010 Posted February 21, 2010 Sounds like you've changed the balance. Not sure about Vista but can't see it would be any different to XP. The balance is a slider above the volume slider and should be set to centre. Quote
