Errrrr .... do I get a prize? Yes, you get to explain (again) just how I change the colour and size of the test in the post (and signature). Sorry, I looked for the original post but couldn't find it ( in a Ray Charles kind of way). Quote
steppenwolf Posted November 20, 2001 Author Posted November 20, 2001 Peter, I just know that you are going to love this, especially the asterisks (*)!!:- The key to adding these extra 'features' is to use HTML (HyperText Mark-up Language) commands such as those that are used in the development of a web site. The nice thing about this is that the 'overhead' on the BBS server is minimal as it does not have to store the actual photograph or other data, it simply displays the files that are stored on someone elses server. The BBS does this by 'pointing' your browser at that other server. This, of course, pre-supposes that you have your own web site on which to store the items that you want to display in your BBS postings. How to do it? To allow you to see the code used rather than it just activating, I have had to use asterisks (*) instead of the real code! Example 1, To change the color of text in your post:- type the following but change the asterisks * to open and close square brackets [] *color=red*your text goes here*/color* The colors available seem to be red, blue, green, yellow, orange, purple but there may well be others too, I gave up testing after that lot! Note the 'American' spelling of 'color'! Example 2, To change the size of text in your post:- type the following but change the asterisks * to open and close square brackets [] *size=7*your text goes here*/size* The text sizes seem to be from 1 to 10, 1 being small, 10 being large Example 3, To insert a hypertext link to a specific page on another web site:- type the following but change the asterisks * to open and close square brackets [] *URL=http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/oakwood_data/carproj.htm*Visit my Build Site*/URL* Example 4, To insert a hypertext link to a specific picture on another web site:- type the following but change the asterisks * to greater than/less than signs <> *image src="http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/oakwood_data/carline2.jpg"* Other features can be found by clicking on the 'iB Code' hyperlink at the bottom of the posting screen when you are composing a new post. DON'T FORGET TO CONVERT THE ASTERISKS TO THE SYMBOLS SHOWN!! If you are still stuck, email me and I will give you my telephone number so I can talk you through it! Quote
Peter Cox Posted November 20, 2001 Posted November 20, 2001 Thankyou. However, deja vu - I'm sure I posted a thankyou this avo'. Perhaps a "Next generation development" post is on the cards. Quote
steppenwolf Posted November 20, 2001 Author Posted November 20, 2001 Peter, Aha you've cracked it my boy! Now all you've got to do is get the hang of type face changes. Now all you've got to do is get the hang of type face changes. Now all you've got to do is get the hang of type face changes. Now all you've got to do is get the hang of type face changes. Now all you've got to do is get the hang of type face changes. ...... and then you will be there! Quite what all this has to do with our wonderful cars though, I'm not quite sure Quote
Peter Cox Posted November 20, 2001 Posted November 20, 2001 Aha but I've already got the hang of type face changes. What's it got to do with Westies. Well, once technology has caught up with me, I intend to place a XTML statement just outside my driveway so that I can upload a different, randomised, engine type every day I drive the car. Quote
steppenwolf Posted November 21, 2001 Author Posted November 21, 2001 Peter, There's no showing you! (BUT I'M WORKING ON IT!) :0 Quote
