westy Posted September 29, 2002 Posted September 29, 2002 Although it took the Americans moaning (no offence colonel) about F1 to be sufficiently daring to implement some new ways of ‘live’ action onscreen such as: Amount of fuel entered in during a Pit Stop New fangled display on elapsed times between cars Where yellow flag and blue flags were occurring on the circuit…etc Can I just say well done, I thought it was a much improved broadcast, though the snipers in the crowd aiming for the red cars that are always one and two need more pay and better equipment. Well done Barrichello nice win, er gi’ me Quote
Blatman Posted September 29, 2002 Posted September 29, 2002 Us Sky Interactive viewers have had all that info from day 1. This is just a small taste of the extra info you terrestrial viewers are missing out on............... Quote
SEiGHT Posted September 29, 2002 Posted September 29, 2002 And those of us hacking, er paying, for European Satellite from the likes of Canal+ and Palco have had this feature even longer The only disadvantage of it, is that the commentator is some guy you can't understand talking utter **** rather than James Allen... Robertio Posted September 29, 2002 Posted September 29, 2002 The only thing I really didn't like was the bl00dy lap counter stuck on the screen throughout the race, if they insist on having it could they not move it over to one of the corners of the screen so it is out of the way? Quote

Captain Colonial Posted September 30, 2002 Posted September 30, 2002 Although it took the Americans moaning (no offence colonel) ... I assume you meant me. Misspelt, but thanks for the promotion! No offense taken. Sorry about our moaning. It's just we're used to being bombarded with stats while we watch sports on TV and drink our crap beer. But if you take up our habit of inserting commericals every 5 mintues, I'm out of here! I watch F1 for the first five laps, then switch over, it's so dull. When you have the parity of equipment as in CART or IRL, where the cars are more equal and it's mainly down to driver skill and team tactics, back in F1, I'll consider watching it again. Quote
westy Posted September 30, 2002 Author Posted September 30, 2002 oops sorry for the typo Colonial I did looking at the interactive stuff from Sky but its a lot of money per race even with their bulk discount scheme. Never listened to the normal sky's voice over though. Besides anything other than Brundle’s commentary and it wouldn’t be right. James Allen does need to learn to say ‘go’ when the lights actually turn green as opposed to 3 seconds later. But at least his carrying the mantle of Murray by not spotting important race developments and being very excitable! Quote
Fast Westie Posted September 30, 2002 Posted September 30, 2002 After a day's club racing at Lydden I found it therapeutic to watch F1 to help me sleep... Quote
windy Posted September 30, 2002 Posted September 30, 2002 After a day's club racing at Lydden I found it therapeutic to watch F1 to help me sleep... Couldn't agree more! I spent the day at Mallory park watching the Westfield race. Fantastic - No comparison to F1 I'm afraid! Windy Quote
Phssthpok Posted September 30, 2002 Posted September 30, 2002 Brmm, Brmm ......I'll get my coat. Quote
Mark Stanton Posted September 30, 2002 Posted September 30, 2002 F1 has gotta be the biggest snooze ever Much more exciting watching the Speed Series at Three Slappers Many circuits throughout the UK have more entertaining clubmans racing most weekends which is still cheaper than paying for the satellite coverage. Who needs F1 anyway when you're whupping the Yanks in the Ryder Cup Radio Five coverage was great on the way home from 3 Slappers Quote
Blatman Posted September 30, 2002 Posted September 30, 2002 Well, it's not often I disagree with Mr Stanton, but Many circuits throughout the UK have more entertaining clubmans racing most weekends which is still cheaper than paying for the satellite coverage. Agree on the club racing being better, but unless you live in the midlands (like the venerable Mr S), then getting to and from a circuit will probably cost almost as much, if not more, in petrol alone...........Entry fees to most circuits (not hills or sprints) are around a tenner, so that tips the balance in favour of satellite TV, and a crate of 6X, especially as I don't have to drive the armchair home..... Bank holidays at Castle Combe will normally tempt me out though, and there is much to be said for not being a lazy b******* and gettting out there. For me, though, I have been an ardent circuit goer for well over 13 years, both spectating and competing, so the odd weekend in front of the telly with a tinny or two is quite appealing........... Paul Hurdsfield - Joint Manchester AO Posted October 1, 2002 Posted October 1, 2002 Quote [i have been an ardent circuit goer for well over 13 years,] And i have been an ardent circuit goer for over 30 years, (but I'm much older than young blatters), And as I've said before you cant beat a good clubbie at Oulton Park, especially in the rain . I've also attended every British Gee Pee since 1976, but this year is really trying my patience, mind you in a few years time we'll all be saying how we watched the great Michael Scumbag win everything Quote
Adrian Elkin Posted October 2, 2002 Posted October 2, 2002 The thing is, when you've been watching CART or some other form of racing in the USover the last few years, more often than not you get the information which Bernie vision has only just released for ITV's use so no great advancement really. And I doubt the refuel calculation is very accurate at all. I tried Bernie Vision earlier on this year. Very good apart from the fact that the race I chose was (YAWN) the San Marino GP. The Porsche Super Cup support race was the best part of it by far. Lower the price to £6 a race and then I'll think about it! What's the Ryder Cup anyway?! Quote
Mark Williamson Posted October 2, 2002 Posted October 2, 2002 I went to watch cart racing the other week at Rockingham, unfortunatley the great pitstops were ruined by all the cars driving round a boring oval circuit, round and round and round. Most of the skillfull driving was done in the pits, avoiding each other. The topping on the cake was that a Brit won! Quote
