brianm Posted August 10, 2002 Posted August 10, 2002 James, are you absolutely sure about this? what documentation backs this up? I know its true for all Q plated cars, but I'm not at all certain about current reg cars etc. As an aside ,and I may have missed your post on this, but how did the SVA and self centreing probs go? Brian. and didnt mention CATS once. Quote
james grayley Posted August 10, 2002 Posted August 10, 2002 hi brian, i'm absolutely certain. i had heard this from various sources when building the car. paul from plays-kool came with me for my sva and travelling down he said he knew this to be the case also. we asked the sva inspector who without hesitation confirmed this along with various other tales of diesel emmision irregularities which i didnt quite understand! to cut a long sory short if when you sva your car u describe it as amateur built ie kit-car, then post sva emmisions test are all visual including road side police checks, regardless of registration. dvla have confirmed this over the telephone to me and i will get written proof/ although this is the case most mot inspectors carry out emmisions tests to registartion dates, however u can appeal / insist they contact the ministry to get it confirmed. check cars are registered as amateur built and u will have no probs. i have a 2000 zetec engine which passed sva emissions test using cat, lambda and dta management with no problems. i will be getting a new reg, but will never have to have emissions tests at mot! in terms of self centering i had a tight top ball joint and ride heights incorrect. failed sva for NO self centre. lowered rear of car to increase caster.... and now have some self centre. should hopefully pass re-test on thursday! james grayley Posted August 10, 2002 Posted August 10, 2002 should also say i will let u know when i get some written proof, but everyone i have spoken to about this has had no hesitation in giving me the answer..... so maybe more people than i thought knew?? Quote
