gregh Posted August 5, 2002 Posted August 5, 2002 looking at the various Westie piccies there seems little or no side protection, so are you very vulnerable if hit from the side in a Westie? Can you get any side protection at all cheers, Greg Quote
Mark Stanton Posted August 5, 2002 Posted August 5, 2002 Nope, other than welding in a full roll cage with side pieces Can you get any side protection at all Quote
Ian Posted August 8, 2002 Posted August 8, 2002 I used to worry about that as well, but there are a few features that would probably help in a side impact: - The wheels stick out beyond the passenger space, so would take the impact first. - There are two (reasonably solid) chassis members down the side of the passenger compartment, compared with a sheet of 1mm steel in a 'normal' car. - A Westfield is half the weight of a normal car, so would tend to be pushed out of the way far more in an impact, reducing the deformation. The real problem would be a side impact from a 4x4 or HGV, which would just go straight over the top! Ian Quote
Stueyboy Posted August 9, 2002 Posted August 9, 2002 Not as serious but annoying are stones coming over the windscreen and slamming into your noggin. Must take those seat sliders off then I can hide under the windscreen Quote

Of course tin tops wouldn't be much better but the roof and doors do tend to make their drivers think they're as hard as nails ! Quote
