JeffC Posted January 10, 2010 Posted January 10, 2010 gonna stick an elleccy shower in to the kids bathroom, will 8.5kw be powerful enough as have seen 11kw at a higher price ? and what is a decent make to get in showers Quote
carpetstu Posted January 10, 2010 Posted January 10, 2010 Jeff be careful on the wiring 11kw needs a chunky supply wire! Edit to add Cable as far as I understand should be approx 1mm per kw of the shower. So a 6.5 kw shower needs 6mm cable and an 11kw should be on 10mm cable. But that's only a guide, get an decent sparky to confirm! Quote
JeffC Posted January 10, 2010 Author Posted January 10, 2010 will look into that as will be using a previously used cable that I found behind the plasterboards when I knocked the tiles off looks like a cooker wire Quote

Stuart Posted January 10, 2010 Posted January 10, 2010 Have had a 7.5kw Triton for years and it's been great. Good enough flow even when the incoming water's freezing like it is now. Quote
nik9669 Posted January 10, 2010 Posted January 10, 2010 You may want to get it checked by electrician to be sure it's safe. Regulations have changed in recent years, and there's a requirement (wisely - water and electrics, and all that) for proper circuit breakers, etc. 8.5kW should be ok - many showers out there are but that. Higher the rating, faster the potential water flow - it can only deliver the quantity of water it can heat to the temperature you've requested, so higher rated can "work" better. Also, if you live in hard water area, it'll "fur up" like your kettle does, thus losing efficiency. Quote

RedditchJay Posted January 10, 2010 Posted January 10, 2010 Jeff Carpetstu is right about wiring... I had 7.5kw on 6mm wiring, upgraded to 9.5kw but had to change to 10mm wiring and then new fuse box {17th addition}, ceilings out etc etc became a nightmare arew £700 I hadnt planned to spend. IF you can stick for a like for like KW then do so Quote
