juansolo Posted December 3, 2010 Author Posted December 3, 2010 Thanks for taking the time to compile the diary. Makes a good read. Loved the vids. What did the beetle have on its roof!! that was a FunCup car. Actually a mid-engined single seater with a Beetle silhouette body. Probably the air intake or feed to the rad maybe... Quote
dombanks Posted December 3, 2010 Posted December 3, 2010 ahhh very cool no chance of that being road legal then Quote
juansolo Posted December 3, 2010 Author Posted December 3, 2010 ahhh very cool no chance of that being road legal then It has indicators, brake lamps and headlamps... It even has a nice sensible engine. Though it would be seriously thwarted by the first speed bump you come too. Quote

The intake is split under the scoop. One feeds the carb and the other goes down to the oil cooler. I miss the two we ran. Very competitive racing Quote

It's really, really not built for that weather. Can't drive it fast enough to get anything up to temperature, even on wets. Would have been far better off in my westie! Quote
Lurksalot Posted December 4, 2010 Posted December 4, 2010 I think you were pretty much the fastest thing out there ( in a straight line ) It was a shame you didn't do the after lunch sessions, the track really came on , it was pretty much balls out all the way round until druids , which left any number of skid marks . the fronts washed out without power and the back end wanted to swap with power . Great fun day though and only 24 cars booked on I'm not sure anyone nmade any money , but it felt like you had the track to yourself Quote
lippydave Posted December 4, 2010 Posted December 4, 2010 Nice diary and a really great collection of stuff on your gnomepages... Well written and very enjoyable thought provoking reading. Just spent 30 mins with coffee and toast reading through whilst building up the resolve to go and clear some snow.... Great choices and variety of cars you have or previously owned too... Quote

Cheers matey, though they're all current apart from the Elise I keep meaning to do an older cars page... Not as interesting stuff though there's the PPE (pintworth Westie) tucked away in there and some other odds and sods. Quote

Great fun day though and only 24 cars booked on I'm not sure anyone nmade any money , but it felt like you had the track to yourself We had a couple of reasons for getting back early. Not only the cold, but Colin had managed to get a contact lens folded up and lost inside his eye... He had to go to A&E to get it out. When the conditions are right and you can get temperature into it, it's blindingly quick. As soon as the tyres get sticky and you can push it enough for the aero to start working. Here you go, this is what it was like... Druids -4. Bear in mind that car does not like to go sideways (only 1 turn lock to lock). Doesn't look like much in the video, but it certainly caused some twitchery in the ringpiece let me tell you. Luckily it was more of a shakedown run for us. We'd had the back of the car off to replace the clutch plates so we just wanted to check that, the brakes, get it noise tested, and a few other mods we'd made to the car. Once we were happy with that we were done really. Will definitely be back to Oulton next year though. As we're only doing one Eurotrip, so hopefully this'll mean a few more UK days and Oulton when it's not -4, will suit it down to the ground. Quote

That looks about right To be honest , you have a lovely bit of kit there , but trackdays might get a bit frustrating for you, as I reckon you would have most of the traffic getting in your way. You would likely be the fastest at most days But hey ho enjoy it , it looks and goes great Quote
