mark.anson Posted December 15, 2009 Posted December 15, 2009 Ive been looking at a couple of different software options to add to my YouTube videos for next year and enquired with PlaysKool. Ive been looking at the RaceTechnology option to link into my DL1 logger, but it turns out Playskool are now signing up as ChaseCam dealers and they have some cracking software to merge existing data and video’s. An example of one of my runs '>My Webpage Here. Comments anyone!!! On the software, not my slow wet lap. Quote
Matt Seabrook Posted December 15, 2009 Posted December 15, 2009 Looks good. Once set up I do like how easy the RT stuff is but that said I have not looked at the Playskool stuff so that may be just as good or better. Quote
Mark (smokey mow) Posted December 15, 2009 Posted December 15, 2009 Having no experience of data logging would I be correct in thinking that the Chasecam software essentially takes the video file from your bullet cam and the separate data file from the DL1 and merges these into the single video file we see here with the data overlay? The alternative I guess being a single data module that records the video and data simultainiously and writes this the a single file? If this software is the former of the two then it seems a good idea. It was interesting watching the video as to your braking and acceleration points, I've been thinking about investing in a DL1 for next year. Quote
mark.anson Posted December 15, 2009 Author Posted December 15, 2009 Another one here of some geezer in an Orange Stryker! No idea who he is ! '>here Quote

Im told the RT stuff is good but not as user friendly as the Chasecam. Would be interested to see RT stuff in action though! Quote

Im a bit of a technophobe when it come to computers etc but if you ring Nick or Luke at Playskool im sure he can answer any questions you may have. Matt do you have an example of the RT stuff?? Quote
davidgh Posted December 15, 2009 Posted December 15, 2009 Another one here of some geezer in an Orange Stryker! No idea who he is ! Whoever he is Mark, he doesn't seem to have connected his tacho to his datalogger. Quote

I understand there is an update to the software with improved graphics Quote
nikpro Posted December 16, 2009 Posted December 16, 2009 Mark, everybody is different be we find the video with data ovelay a bit of a waste of time as it's not easy to analyse trends etc, but is a nice 'gimmick'. Obviously most of these systems give you the ability to analyse the Data as well but we could/can not justify the cost of a system. We currently use overlay software which is much cheaper, is easy to use and the dashboards can show anything you want. from Vimeo. Quote

It's basically sofware to overlay video and data. Using any video and any data that you have. So if you want to you can use any exisitng files. It will also generate the normal data graphs as well in an easy to read format. But your existing data system should have done that as well. ChaseCam also do video camera and data module that gives it all in one go. Quote
Mark (smokey mow) Posted December 16, 2009 Posted December 16, 2009 Thanks Nick, something to look into next year Quote
Nick Algar - Competition Secretary Posted December 17, 2009 Posted December 17, 2009 Let me know if you have some video and data combining, happy to do a demo peice for people as it's so easy to do. Interesting comment from Nikpro, which made me think. Over the years I have used data a lot and will download between sprint runs, comparing the graphs, etc, which with a degree in engineering I find easy to do. Then going out and putting the data into practice to go quicker on the track. I then wondered why do I like the combined video & data, and it struck me that for anyone not trained in data analysis it's a quick tool to easily visually see differences either between themselves and co driver or their own different runs. Hopefuly then enabling them to have the confidence to go quicker Mind the pictures do look pretty Quote
