Jim1234 Posted December 8, 2009 Posted December 8, 2009 An ad for a car that was on the for-sale section is no longer there. I thought I had read somewhere on the site (but cannot locate the reference) that ads could only be edited i.e. could not be removed by the seller? Can anyone point me at the board rules covering postings that cover what you can and cannot do. If I am mistaken and ads can be removed does this also apply to posts in other parts of the board.. I have seen the warnings that the board administrators can remove posts, for example "in bad taste" but that hardly applies to a simple ad. Quote
Mark Stanton Posted December 8, 2009 Posted December 8, 2009 Ads can be removed by original poster - and it is sometimes done if they either change their minds or have sold it and so choose to remove ad Quote
Jim1234 Posted December 8, 2009 Author Posted December 8, 2009 Thanks, I don't know which applies in this case, but I have not seen any introduction type posts or anyone claiming to have a new car yet, so perhaps here has been a change of mind over the sale. Now that I think about it - the car was also on the PH classified, so I had a look and its gone from there as well. I have noticed on that site, the cars seem to move to from being up for sale, to a "sold by PH" status before then being removed. So as a follow up question - does this mean it has been withdrawn or is it up to the user if "sold by PH" is used for a short period before the ad is removed? I have looked on PH to seek an answer, but I think you would have to have had a car up for sale on their site to know what happens - so can anyone help? If cars keep vanishing like this - "me thinks" - I will need to cast the net further, perhaps adding more hard core VX engined Speed cars to my list! Quote
Blatman Posted December 8, 2009 Posted December 8, 2009 Er... who cares? You're really over analysing it! Everyones different. If I had a car for sale, and then sold it, I'd take the ad down. Some folk don't. As for hard core Vx engined cars? Er, my Vx is a nunney cat. But like all nunney cats, poke it with a stick and it'll bite you. It's not the car that's hard core, it's the nut holding the wheel... Quote
Jim1234 Posted December 8, 2009 Author Posted December 8, 2009 Er.....me I guess, I just wanted to know how PH worked and if you had to sign on to the "Sold by PH" status for a while; as after all the ads are free. I thought someone out there might know given that all the cars advertised here seem to be put on PH. Note to self;.... perhaps I should join the PH board I agree, that to seek information for no good reason could be a wast of time, both mine and yours. But I assumed, you might have guessed, that I happen to have a telephone number at hand and will be making a call tonight and a heads-up on how that call might go would not I my eyes be over analysing; but rather a useful piece of information to have before picking up the phone. So, if anyone out there knows the answer to my question I would be grateful for a reply? QUOTE hard core VX engined Speed cars Note to self; cross learning how to use quotes of the list... Yes, I agree it was an unfortunate turn of phrase and I unreservedly apologise to any owners of VX engined cars who have been offended. What I meant to say was ...cars with those nice VX engines, but having hard core features that have been known to compete in the Speed Series.... Second note to self; don't use shorthand as it can be misconstrued. Quote

PH adverts are only valid for I think 30 days, after which they vanish from the list and it's up to the advertiser whether they re-list again, which can be done as many times as you like. When a car is sold you have 3 options with the advert... 1. Do nothing and carry on getting phone calls from people who think it's still for sale, until the 30 days expires. 2. Log-on to PH and change the status to "sold by PH", this satus will remain until the add is 30 days old after which the car will vanish from the list. 3. Log-on and remove the advert from the listings. Edited to add: If the car isn't now on PH's it could mean that the car has sold and therefore the seller has pulled the add, but it may just be a case that the listing expired and for whatever reason the seller has opted not to re-list it again. Jim1234 Posted December 8, 2009 Author Posted December 8, 2009 Thank Smokey, that PH info useful to know. The car was only up for two weeks, that's what caught my attention when it went missing; I think it has been pulled till spring. The last Duatec to go was on sale over a month, and the price had to be dropped twice before it sold. Unfortunately, I was out of the country and see did not get a chance to see that car. This car has a similar spec and is on for £2k more, albeit a slightly younger car they had done similar mileages. Perhaps now is not really the best season to show off a virtues of a Westfield, but all it takes is one punter who's got the cash at the right time. Anyway I'm going to phone to find out. Quote
