cast iron Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 my 14 month old 2.0L Diesel Qashqai is going back on Monday, fuel light came on and I calculated I needed only put 25 litres in to get me through Monday. Driving home from the petrol station the car makes a couple of coughs, mind you I am thrashing it but then I have a flashback of putting the green nozzle back in the pump, oh pooh or words to that effect. I crawl home and think after tea i will pop out and top it up with diesel, guess what it wont start. Dad comes round we try to syphon it but nothing, then we decide well lets fill up the jerry can and try topping her up with diesel, so after getting 19litres of diesel in and 3-4 mins cranking it starts, sounds loke cracking ice for 30 seconds or so but then goes sweet, drove to the garage and filled it up and all seems well PHEW Lets see if she starts in the morning! cast iron Posted November 25, 2009 Author Posted November 25, 2009 the ten grand for a replacement van is burning a hole in my desire to put a deposit on a GTR that or a 350LC project for the winter Quote

lippydave Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 Once put about 15 lires of diesel in a Porker 944. Some kind gent on the forecourt pointed it out...... Got my mate to come out with some big jerry cans..... Undid the underbonnet fuel feed, stuck a piece of wire acrosss the fuel pump relay terminals to short it and emptied it on the key...... Refilled with petrol, it chuffed a bit for 30 secs then ran sweetly ever after.......Well, as sweetly as a 944 can... Bit harder if you've brimmed it Quote
fergusm Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 One of my engineers filled his company Diesel Focus with unleaded in Averdeen (car was empty), drove it to Dundee before he stopped for a bite to eat and could not get it to re-start, had noticed that he needed to keep rev'ing it to keep it going before stopping.. ... could not get it going and after AA came out, quick look around, asked for Fuel receipt and worked out the mistake... ...got taken to Ford dealer and as it was a company car they called leasing firm etc... £1,700+vat later he got car back !!! New fuel pump, injector the whole works.. ooch ! Quote
cast iron Posted November 25, 2009 Author Posted November 25, 2009 Iv'e seen a shattered (like it had exploded) fuel pump on our test rigs for the same engine as mine when petrol was acidently switched in. Needless to say I was bricking it Quote

RedditchJay Posted November 26, 2009 Posted November 26, 2009 Derv is heavier than petrol....... just wait to see if the next owner runs the fuel low ;-) Quote
pistonbroke Posted November 26, 2009 Posted November 26, 2009 Derv is heavier than petrol....... just wait to see if the next owner runs the fuel low ;-) Just like adding milk to tea , derv and petrol mix willingly together and can't be seperated . dont ask how I know About time they invented some kind of different sized fillers for petrol and derv to make it idiot proof Quote
dombanks Posted November 26, 2009 Posted November 26, 2009 About time they invented some kind of different sized fillers for petrol and derv to make it idiot proof they already have.... my dad recons its impossible to put a unleaded pump into his new diesel focus Quote
