Andyrew Posted June 21, 2002 Posted June 21, 2002 My 1700 crossflow has the shallow alloy sump and a dipstick without any markings! Measuring the length of the stick and depth to bottom of sump there is about 1 1/2" of oil sloshing about in the sump. Is this enough? How far down the stick from the top should the "normal" level come? Any ideas what the fill capacity should be with this sump? Thanks for any info.. Quote
studbuckle Posted June 21, 2002 Posted June 21, 2002 Having spent a LOT of time getting a definitive answer on just this subject.... filling the engine from oil change with the reccomended amount left barely a dribble on the dipstick but oil pressure was good and nothing excessive out of the breathers. However it suffered from surge under braking because the sump is unbaffled so i've now put the level to the original min mark on my dipstick which is around the 1" mark (or just higher) no it runs just the same but much less surge. Sounds like your near enough right. As long as it's not dumping lots of oil out of the breather then it should be fine Quote
