Nick Algar - Competition Secretary Posted November 20, 2009 Posted November 20, 2009 Yes Nick .......... if you're running XP leave it for a month or two to let big updates / upgrades roll through if you're using XP If you're on Vista then do it asap Ah, wondered if that might be the case. Yep on XP, decided Vista was not a good idea Quote
Blatman Posted November 20, 2009 Posted November 20, 2009 XP is going to be supported until 2014 IIRC, so there's no need to rush. Let the early uptakers and get in there and do the beta testing. Micro$oft are bound to release a big update in January / February, so if you must (and I don't see any really good reason for changing) wait until then. As for It allows you to select which programs start at Windows start up. I used it to stop annoying background programs that eat memory like printer utilities, QuickTime, RealTime, etc that do practically nothing and slow your computer down. Had very good results and the price was right as well (free Windows has selective start up built in. Always has had. Go to Start > Run. Type msconfig in the box. A new Window opens. Click the "Startup" tab, far right. Untick anything you don't want to run at boot up. When you restart the machine there will be a window that says Windows is in selective boot mode and do you want the machine to boot this way every time. Click Yes, or Accept or whatever it says. Clicking No puts all the ticks back in and you're back to square 1... Quote
