JamesD
Hello there: Considering fitting a set of 13" alloys to by soon to be built Westy.... Can anyone tell me what the correct tyre size is, what offset on that alloys is needed (I assume I required a standard Ford 4 stud pattern). Also has anyone any ideas where the best stockist is for these type of alloys (nb. must buy a copy of classic ford). I especially like the look of some split-rim style 13" on a c******m with anthracite centres. Thanks in advance JD
peterg
Most have 6" rims all round although some people run 7" on the back and occasionally front and back - you will need std Ford PCD and offset should be checked with Westfield but is normally between ET19 and ET35 George Polly can do KN Minators (std C*terham fit) for £50+vat and Compomotive ML (stronger race wheel) for £75+vat or there are Minilite themselves - alternatively there are Superlite (on Links page) and others....do a search as there was some discussion on this a couple of weeks ago
Westfieldman
The c******m R500 wheel like on my Westfiled are available from Mike Barrnby Engineering and are light 3 peice outer rim is cheap to replace if needed but cost about £200 each with the VAT and he will make them to what ever size and offset you want in 13" dia. Nick M
I suggest you check the offset with the factory - every time the question is raised here it seems to generate about 10 different answers !! The split rim c******m ones sound like the magnesium R500 wheels - made by Mike Barnby and are 'kin expensive !! Very nice, but very expensive ! Compomotive MLs are now available as split rims as are their TH range. Check out the Compomotive and Polley Motorsport sites. Also try the BMTR site. As has been mentioned, KN Minators and Superlites are worth a look but check on delivery times as the latter can be a tad on the slow side. I'd concur with the 6" width and would suggest 185/60/13 tyres rather than 205s. I remain unconvinced that you really need wide tyres on a Westfield. Blatman
For offsets, I'd buy the smallest one (ET35) and use spacers (and fit longer studs) to get the wheel sitting right. FWIW my green car has some pretty big spacers (20mm, I reckon, I've never measured them! ) behind those lovely black alloys. I'd agree with Nick on tyre size too, but once you get above 170-180bhp, there may well be some extra benefit to be had from wider tyres. It certainly won't do any harm, particularly on a hot track day, when temperature may become an issue with narrower tyres on the driven wheels. JamesD
Thanks for the info, I think I will confirm with the factory on what they tend to go for in their motorsport series in the way of offset. Shame about those split-rims, can't really justify £200 a corner!!! Regards JD
