Pembroke Pat Posted May 21, 2002 Posted May 21, 2002 Now while I realise that a westfield isn't likely to be to most waterproof car in the world but when I fit the upper steering column in place then do I need to fit a seal around the column in case of a fire in the engine bay. My gut feeling is that I need to ensure that the cockpit is as sealed as possible from the engine bay. In which case what should I use? Quote
Nick M Posted May 21, 2002 Posted May 21, 2002 Nope, just don't worry about it. In the event of a fire, the *last* thing you'll be worrying about is flames getting past the bushes in the steering column !! Quote
Pembroke Pat Posted May 21, 2002 Author Posted May 21, 2002 I agree, I would be the proverbial rat but is there a requirement for SVA? Quote
tomo Posted May 21, 2002 Posted May 21, 2002 I used a grommet similar o the ones Westfield supply for the wiring but more to keep out the wet. Tomo Quote
russbif Posted May 21, 2002 Posted May 21, 2002 A bead of Sikaflex or silicon sealant will do the job Russ Quote
Pembroke Pat Posted May 22, 2002 Author Posted May 22, 2002 Thanks guys. I suppose the first step is to make a well fitting hole in the plate. Quote
Richardr Posted May 27, 2002 Posted May 27, 2002 I have just reached the same point building my car. I cut a 40mm Dia hole in the sheet, then cut a hole to fit the outer tube in a suitable sealing grommet, and fitted it. Nice and neat and simple. I can e-mail a picture if you want.
