Buzz Billsberry Posted October 30, 2009 Posted October 30, 2009 If it's a foul water drain then the blockage will be the responsility of the land owner under which the blockage occurs (probably the council). If it's a surface (rain) water drain then that'll be you're responsibility to repair. Unfortunately because you'll have to dig up the grass verge/footpath/road or whatever public land to fix the fault you'll need to use an appropriate contractor with the necessary public liability insurance to apease the council (or do it on a bank holiday weekend ) all the rainwater and toilet turds go into a manhole in the yard then from there out into the main sewer k*n'ell Jeff am gonna gip. I had similar problem with the house I rent out Fortunately I got it jetted and it cleared the lodged turds. I think I paid about £60 but it was a while back. If that doesn't cure it get on to the local council Buzz Quote
fatbaldbloke Posted October 30, 2009 Posted October 30, 2009 Our house is the lowest point of our estate, so we have about 12 houses S*** flowing through the drains at the end of our garden, where there's an inspection cover over the junction where our own domestic waste joins. Anyway, a couple of years ago there was a bit of a pong one morning, and upon investigation our garden was awash with poo. The drain had blocked some way away under the street and the uphill houses had continued with their number 2's and our inspection chamber filled up, lifted the cover and all the floaters came into our garden. We called Anglian Water, who I think contacted the council, but whatever, they came out immediately, cleared the blockage, and were very thorough in clearing the debris from the garden. As I recall we had a bill from Anglian Water, which we passed on to the council to pay as it was their liability (or the other way round). It certainly didn't cost us anything as the blockage was outside of our property. Thanks for reminding me of the lovely incident...off to lunch now! Quote
