Pilot Pete Posted October 29, 2009 Posted October 29, 2009 Thinking about purchasing one of these on O2. Whats peoples thoughts, I really really like the palm pre actually, partly because its smaller than the iphone's and it actually has some better functionality, but you just know the iphone will be around forever now. I think I would take the palm over the iphone 3G, as neither have video (although people have hacked the palm recently to take video), but the 3GS does take video. All the contracts are exactly the same, except on the 3GS I would have to make a one time payment of about £90. Any thoughts / views? Quote
Nomexnomad Posted October 29, 2009 Posted October 29, 2009 I only had to pay £50 too, but that was a business contract. It works out cheaper on business too as you get unlimited data and webrowsing, free access to the cloud network (public wi-fi hotspots) and 02 to 02 calls are free Quote
Pew Posted October 29, 2009 Posted October 29, 2009 Iphone 3gs period..... Pre has reports of slow response and screen accuracy when tapping.. Quote
adamnreeves Posted October 29, 2009 Posted October 29, 2009 There are so many apps for the IPhone now Quote
carpetstu Posted October 29, 2009 Posted October 29, 2009 Iphone 3GS 32 gb ! You know it makes sense I have had the 3g and now the 3gs Everything on the market is now designed around the Iphone ie incar connections etc To make it even better I sold the 3 x old iphone 3g' for £250 each on Ebay when I upgraded so that was a nice bonus Quote
funbobby Posted October 29, 2009 Posted October 29, 2009 Ive got an Iphone free off work - everything else is w**k in comparison IMHO ;-) Plus everytime they bring out a new one you just upgrade your software online for free. Quote
SIMON.G. Posted October 29, 2009 Posted October 29, 2009 F.Y.I. Orange are bringing out the i phone 3g/3gs before Christmas and then vodafone are in January. Although there is no prices available for them yet I would expect the networks to become rather competative with each other to get the sales. I know the Orange tariffs will vary from £30 upwards, obviously the more you spend the cheaper the phone, the 3g may even be free on the £30. They are keeping it all hush hush I can't really comment that much on the phone itself as i have never really had a good go of one. I do know however they have had a few locking up probs when too many apps are applied and also the wifi not connecting. Apple have released a software upgrade to fix this but wifi connection still has probs If you can hold off a bit pete, watch this space, I may even be able to sort something out for you. We haven't been given any other info other than just before crimbo. Mrs Og Quote

Looks like its going to be an Iphone 3GS! Yipeee! BTW, I'd rather stay with O2 if possible, I've been with them for 10 years now without issue, even on the same sim card lol. I think it came with a philips savvy back in about 99! Quote
7SE Posted October 30, 2009 Posted October 30, 2009 Has anyone used TomTom or similar SatNav on the iPhone? I'm interested in how this works in practice on a single tasking OS, when phone calls happen, or you want to look up a contact, or an alarm rings. I used to have a Palm T3 running TomTom 4 in the past and everything was OK until some other software, like a reminder, or looking up a contact took over. Because of the single tasking OS, TT would lose contact with the GPS receiver and then your satnav instructions went to pot. Palm Pre, like Android, has that comfort of a proper multi-tasking OS. Like WinMob, but that is just Sh!ite so we won't mention that again!! Quote

Awesome piece of software, used it to navigate from Hampshire to Edinburgh once I see no point in investing in a separate GPS device. Quote
