davew Posted May 18, 2002 Posted May 18, 2002 I have been reading my SEiW build manual and it suggests that when sourcing the front uprights from a donor vehicle they will need to be machined to reduce the size in order to fit cycle style front wings. Has anyone else come across this problem if there is one and it it easily remidied? Quote
JonnyBoy Posted May 18, 2002 Posted May 18, 2002 I used cortina uprights on my car. I had the inner face of the top ball joint mounting flange machined down. It wasnt really a problem as i got one of the engineering firms in Nottingham to do it for me. cost me 35 quid but at least it was a perfect job! There was a post a few weeks ago regarding this, some suggestions flying round about using an angle grinder to remove the material but i personally dont fancy that approach. try the search function to find the old thread. enjoy the build Quote
damianc Posted May 19, 2002 Posted May 19, 2002 There's quite a lot of metal to take off so it's quite a gradual process with an angle grinder. Alternatively, mark a scribe line, cut with a hacksaw and smooth off with a grinder. Any slight uneveness will be fine as the mild steel of the brackets should mould to the upright Quote
davew Posted May 19, 2002 Author Posted May 19, 2002 Thanks. I think this is a cheaper route than buying the westfield ones!!! Quote
