Mickie C Posted May 16, 2002 Posted May 16, 2002 I realise there is a site out there that shows pictures of the various Ford gearboxes which helps when in comes to identify the box fitted. However having never seen the box in the car I've no idea what it looks like. It's in a 1990, SE, it's a 4 speed with reverse up and left. Having to push the gear lever down to engage reverse. Does anyone have any idea what this might be from? Cheers MIke Quote
rkenyon Posted May 16, 2002 Posted May 16, 2002 Sounds like a type 9 to me. They're from all sorts of things like: Capri 1.6/2.0 02/83 on Capri 2.8 11/82 on Sierra 1.6/1.8/2.0 to 12/88 Sierra XR4i Sierra XR4x4 2.8 Check out: http://www.burtonpower.com/pages/technical/tt_type9.asp Quote
Gazza Posted May 17, 2002 Posted May 17, 2002 If its a 4-speed then its most likely to be the Type 'E', which is the 4-speed version of the Type '9'. It is also known colloquially as the Ford '2 Litre' gearbox. The best version of the Ford 2-litre box has the RS2000 ratios: 1st - 3.65 2nd - 1.97 3rd - 1.37 4th - 1.00 (direct) You can check your ratios with a bit of tape on the tyre and the crank pulley, plugs removed and roll the car around until you've finished counting in each gear .... hey presto!
