neo Posted February 24, 2002 Posted February 24, 2002 Right i bought a Granada ghia 2.0 injection twin cam for a donor, its got the MT75 box,new calipers on rear and quiet diff etc, but here's the crunch question i no the Zetec is better but i was thinking of running this twin cam 2.0 motor for a while then upgrade later on to the Zetec to spread the cost, for now anyway, basically just fit some twin 45's and get it up and running so to speak for a season, saying i have the motor, but whats the engine based on a cvh bottom end or a pinto or something else. And would i be able to get the inlet manifold to fit it ? what would be the best way to utalise this engine in the build as its got 130bhp in the Granada as standard, seems a shame to go to waste or is it just a non starter from the out set ?advice would be very much appriecated cheers neo Quote
Fast Westie Posted February 24, 2002 Posted February 24, 2002 The Twin cam engine is a Pinto with a better head. Remeber that the exhaust will be on the right and you will have a hole in the body there if you want to upgrade later (you could use a Duratec though). For inlet manifolds try Burtons, or bodge in the standard injection. Quote
JonnyBoy Posted February 24, 2002 Posted February 24, 2002 I asked Westfield about using the sierra 2.0 dohc engine when i was working out what i was going to use. (i assume it is the dohc you are referring to...if not ignore me:) ) They said they had done a couple of cars using this engine but they never developed mountings or chassis etc because it was a useless engine...too big & underpowered i think. give them a call and ask chris masters his opinion..im sure it will be an honest one. regards Jon Quote
jamie Posted February 25, 2002 Posted February 25, 2002 as for fast westie info i will advise on building 2 of thesee engines the dohc is not the same as the pinto or cvh as the pinto and cvh has a cam belt and the dohc has a chain driven camshafts it is its own bottom end Quote
neo Posted February 25, 2002 Author Posted February 25, 2002 mmmmmm so its abit of a loner then ? So the MT75 box will still be ok though, but only for this and the Zetec is that right. Quote
Fast Westie Posted February 26, 2002 Posted February 26, 2002 give them a call and ask chris masters his opinion..im sure it will be an honest one. That might be a bit difficult since Chris no longer works for Westfield! Quote
Fast Westie Posted February 26, 2002 Posted February 26, 2002 Jamie I think you will find that the block, crank, pistons, etc are the same, just a difference in the cam drive pulley. Quote
JonnyBoy Posted February 26, 2002 Posted February 26, 2002 no chris?! I cant believe it but i stand corrected.... i thaught chris masters WAS westfield:) what am i going to do? Quote
Mark Stanton Posted February 26, 2002 Posted February 26, 2002 Same as many other folks PANIC. There's always your fellow W*******d owners here and I read that Mark Walker has stepped into Chris's shoes Quote
Pembroke Pat Posted May 14, 2002 Posted May 14, 2002 neo, I am glad that some one else is in the same boat re trying to put in a ford DOHC. I was told by Westfield that the engine was 7" too tall. If I could have fitted it in I would have and post SVA changed to a second hand pre Aug '95 zetec with Carbs On the zetec front, i you are using the donor car for diff and gearbox then you will need to get a new engine otherwise you will be sourcing major components from different cars and that means a Q plate. At least that is what the DVLA website says. I have spoken to Dunnells and they are asking £4100 plus vat for a new engine with throttle bodies . I am not convinced that you would be allowed to use carbs with a new engine as you would breach the hydrocarbon spec in the emissions that applies to engines that are newer that Aug '95. plus the cat would coke up. I love the idea of the power outputs that Dunnells guarantee but sort of blows my engine budget.(£2000). I would like to know if anyone can recommend another company that can set an new engine cheaply or if one should just buy all the bits from ford. If you have a new engine, could you rip of the injection system of an older mondeo? Quote
Blatman Posted May 14, 2002 Posted May 14, 2002 If I could have fitted it in I would have and post SVA changed to a second hand pre Aug '95 zetec with Carbs Mis-conception alert............. Once you have passed SVA with a pre 95 engine (and assuming the emissions standard isn't added to your log book) you can fit ANY engine you want, from ANY year, without having to worry about emissions too much at MOT time. Quote
Pembroke Pat Posted May 14, 2002 Posted May 14, 2002 but the problem is not so much the emissions but also avoiding a q plate from using a zetec(Mondeo?or new) and using gearbox and diff from a sierra. If I use a new engine then the SVA handbook states that the car emissions should be 0 ppm hydrocarbon as the year of manufacture is post Aug '95. I have been trying to findout from DVLA if I can use a remanufactured zetec and then use the necessary two components for an age related plate. Thanks for the help anyway Quote
Blatman Posted May 14, 2002 Posted May 14, 2002 A letter stating that an engine has been reconditioned to as new condition would be acceptable to the SVA men, and would have pre 95 emissions regs attached to it, assuming it is a pre 95 engine........... Quote
Pembroke Pat Posted May 14, 2002 Posted May 14, 2002 Thanks Blatman My wallet feels a lot happier about that. plus I can have the carbs that I want to have Quote
Glen H Posted May 14, 2002 Posted May 14, 2002 I used a 1994 zetec souced from a salvage yard, and used the mt75 box, diff,cv joints & rear callipers from a doner sierra, when i came to register the car i pushed (with success) for an age related plate.the booklet from the DVLA (form INF26 )stated that for an age related plate you had to use two of the following items from the doner: * suspension (front & back) * axles (both) * transmission * steering assembly * engine I used the transmission & only 1 axle but they didn't want it presented for inspection,if you have all your receipts and paperwork in order for them to see they seemed happy issue an age related plate.
