*nitrous* Posted October 10, 2009 Posted October 10, 2009 I owned a Westfield a couple of years ago and I am now looking to buy another. I have been looking at ptZAutomobiles_UK?hash=item3ca638dede&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14" target="_blank">this car, it is on a 1974 age related plate yet was registered in 2008 and it says in the advert that the car was ‘built using all new components, not reconditioned and not off a donor car.’ The seller is a garage not the original owner of the car, and was unable to answer why it is on a 1974 plate. Can anyone shed any light on the rules regarding age related / Q plate / New 2008 Plate ? Cheers, Graham. Quote
slater Posted October 10, 2009 Posted October 10, 2009 If the car is not Q registered it can carry any age plate, perhaps it is a personal plate, you see some very strange ones that mean nothing but do to the owner perhaps his name war richard lewis Quote
Mark (smokey mow) Posted October 10, 2009 Posted October 10, 2009 The car seems to be correctly registered as a "westfield sports" so as above I assume the original owner chose to put a cherished number on the car. Quote
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman Posted October 10, 2009 Posted October 10, 2009 Lewis is correct. From the DVLA website: You can make your vehicle look as old as you wish but you can not make it look newer than it actually is i.e. You cannot put a Y registration number on a T registered vehicle but you could choose any prefix from an A to a T. HOWEVER, this only applies if the car ALREADY has an age related plate. If it's a Q, (non-age related), then you can't change it at all: The Agency has decided that it will not be releasing Q registration marks for sale. It has emerged that the costs involved in providing sale and transfer facilities would be greater than any return, given the limited number of vehicles that would be eligible to participate. Additionally, the recent review of registration inspection procedures indicated very strong support for retaining the existing policy on Q marks, for consumer protection reasons. So, nothing to worry about. Quote
*nitrous* Posted October 10, 2009 Author Posted October 10, 2009 Is there any way I can find this out for sure? Being registered on 3rd Jan 2008 it should have been on a 57 plate if all parts were indeed new. My worry is that it has been built with some older parts or perhaps the builder could not prove that all parts were new and as such it is stuck with an old registration. If I bought the car I would want to put it back to 57 plate. Cheers, Quote
KerryS Posted October 10, 2009 Posted October 10, 2009 My car was bought fromWF as kit with all new parts - the engine was older but new = unused - and was first registered in 2005 but I had a personal plate that was applicable to a 2000 car. This is still the case. IIRC the car could have been registered as new, in my case 2005, with all new parts bar one major item which had been O/H eg gearbox, engine, diff.... In my case I had some paperwork from WF declaring all new parts. So I would guess that with a first registration of 2008 all parts would be new but there may be an O/H item there. If you get the chassis number WF may give you some provenance, well they would have done, maybe not now....... Quote
Mark Stanton Posted October 10, 2009 Posted October 10, 2009 it used to be that upon registration if a car was built using all new parts a "certicifcate of newness" was issued as proof of this My car was also built using all new parts and was "H" pref-fixed - it is now "A" prefixed but if sold I would always change plate back to original "H" double check that it hasn't previously been registered as a Westfield / Cortina?Escort?Capri?Mondeo Quote
markcoopers Posted October 10, 2009 Posted October 10, 2009 Ask the garage for the contact of the previous owner/builder and ask them? I alway check when i purchase one. Quote
