Carbon or not carbon nose cone?

I am looking to get a new nose cone in the next few weeks, initially cant decide whether to get another yellow one (as mine has been smashed) or to get a carbon one, the price on the Westfield carbon one is 400 quid + I gather and 200 for a standard one.  At donno I mooched around the birkin stand and they do a carbon one, that will not fit (well not without some fettling) but the price for a carbon one is well half that of the Westfield equivalent.

The Westfield quality would mean I could fit it directly on but at 400 I cant warrant a carbon one, are there any other people who will make a carbon nose cone that fits a Westfield? Can I get one offs made cheaper? Based on my nose cone.

If not it looks like a standard yellow one from the boys at Westfield.

What you recon? Yellow or carbon (big bucks) or can other make it for me?

Edwardow,

How much is a carbon one going to pain you when you duff it up again?  Ah I wouldn't bother - get a black GRP one, you know it makes sense  :D

Or get your yellow one repaired and spend the cash saved on that flowed head?  Is it really badly damaged?  It's surprising what you can fix with GRP y'know.

Supprised if Westfield Carbon nose is Only £400, I thought they were more like £600 :0  :arse:

That’s true

I have repaired most of the cracks in the cone with body filler, I will paint it black and use it as a track day nose cone, but want a new yellow (or carbon) one for normal.

Can fibre glass be painted? Just want to give it a matt black, what sort of paint shall I use or is it better taking it to a specialist? (hardly seems worth it if its going to be expensive and only for track)

Can I use a spray can to paint it? I am worried about the paint just cracking off?

Get and do some work!

Well said Moomin, It is ineviatable that the Carbon Fibre one will get damaged, then he will cry!  :p

Also, what is the point of me making you sandwiches for work if you leave them in the house!

Consider yourself told!

LOL sorry i left them there AGAIN HEHEH

Think i will have to make another thread about painting fibre glass

Catflap, don't think - just do it - CARBON FIBRE.

The question is - should you get the Carbon Aeroscreen as well?

For the answer, see my pic below!

It's only money mate.

By the way - I think the nose cone is £600

Catflap,

So are you going to tell everyone how it's broken then, or should I not have asked?

How did it get damaged?

The c******m ones are £599 +VAT so I expected the westfield one's to be cheeper, find out how many layers of carbon you get for your money.

Another idea is to do this*

This was in FastCar Magazine

What you do is get a few rolls of carbon look sticky sheet and apply to the body work, if you take you time and use a hair dryer.

It looks really good not tacky at all.

I was so happy with the results, I have done my hole car in it.

It is away at the moment having some bits done, so I can't send you any photos at the mo.

*This a not a good idea, if you even think of doing this, a large angry  gang, will come to you house and swap your car for a lowered Renault 5 Turbo, with the dump valve that makes more noise than the 5000W stereo system

I spun the car at llandow

I clipped the tyre wall, there was not massive damage, mostly cracks through the cone, so i have filled them in, and will reinforce form the back with more fibre glass.  But just want a new nose cone so the car don’t look tacky. and use this one on track.

God a chap who does mobile re-sprays looking at it for a price tomorrow, if its cheep ill just get it done in black. :)

Would like carbon, even considered having the existing cone covered in carbon (its glass fibre backed most of the time anyway)

Lol at the max power ;) I could cover it in tin foil

there was a german guy on blatchat doing c******m carbon noses cones *MUCH* cheaper, maybe worth trying to contact him and see if he can do a westie one?

Blatchat appears down at the moment, so I can't find the thread, but the thread was in for sale and started off about rear carbon cycle wings.

Get a carbon one. It is much easier to get the dead flies off it and they look the biz. I have one and  a van reversed into me last year. Given the scale of the impact, I was surprised at how little damage occured. It splintered at the bottom bracket and hit the bottom wishbones and left damage there but I wondered if they could take more punishment than a fibreglass one before cracking as they flex a lot. And they are very light. I still have my old broken one which I was going to use on track days as it looks OK from a distance.

How about a carbon nose cone for 300 quid? Found a chap who will make one not a direct copy, but not too dissimilar)

300 quid not bad, I could even get a cool vent on the top made   just a thought

is that the guy off blatchat who will do 'em for £300?

if not I've found his page:

Carbon guy

his prices seem to include german VAT, so don't know if you can claim that back or not.

would be interesting to see if he can do one for a Westfield.

The place in Germany is Mog Racing.

A Catherham nose cone are £300, I think he uses wet lay, the seats are nice.

The UK ones are made in Colchester Essex, not sure if they are wet lay or not.

The line that runs down the car is owned by westfield/kmacs so it would be a good idea to ask they first if you could make a carbon copy.

I have a idea what they may say, starts with N ends in O, but if you don't ask you don't get. ???

In all fairness the carbon sticky sheet is the way to go, ask them if they can make taller screens?

So I can get a biger window sticker on my car.

Anyone up a cruse down Southsea front.
