I had a nightmare getting my sony camera to work with USB. Gave up in the end and bought a firewire card for about a tenner. With firewire it worked straight away under vista.

That's where I am at the moment Russ, tried evrything I can thing of, downloaded Pete's driver, still no joy.

Booking in at the experts (Pete) for wed eve, so should be sorted. :D:D:D

THanks for the tips Blatman, I think what you are trying to say, is they are all getting upgraded. As I will be playing the video tape I don't think it will make much difference to it. BUT great technical info, I'll book the extra degree course to be able to understand it  :D      :D

If you're trying USB converters on a Vista machine, it may well fight back.

Load the USB drivers.

Reboot Vista and as it reboots, press the F8 key once a second until a black and white screen appears with some writing on it. This is called the "Selective Boot Screen"

Scroll down with the arrow keys until you see something that says "Disable Unsigned driver... something or other"... It's usually the one up from the bottom. Highlght that and press enter. That will allow Vista to see and use the no doubt unsigned drivers that the USB device has loaded up ;) Simples...

I have other useful Vista tips if you want them, althoyugh the best tip is... don't use it. Get XP Pro :0:p:D
